The Alachua County Property Appraiser's Office is a constitutional office responsible for ensuring fair and equitable property assessments across Alachua County. Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled, strategic, and hands-on IT Systems Engineer to design, implement, secure, and maintain the organization's technology infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, performance, and security of enterprise systems, including on-premises servers, virtualization platforms, cloud services, storage systems, and core applications. Your expertise will drive the development of scalable system architectures, ensure optimal system performance, and enhance security protocols across diverse platforms. The IT Systems Engineer serves as both a technical expert and strategic partner, translating organizational needs into secure and reliable infrastructure solutions while supporting long-term IT strategy, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the seamless operation of complex IT environments.
What You'll Do For Us:
As an IT Systems Engineer, you will take ownership of the organization's infrastructure and technology ecosystem by: Infrastructure & Systems Administration Managing and maintaining servers, virtualization environments, storage systems, and core network infrastructure Performing system maintenance, OS updates, configuration management, and infrastructure upgrades Monitoring uptime, performance, and capacity planning to ensure operational continuity Maintaining system architecture documentation and configuration standards Cloud & Platform Administration Administering Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra, AWS, and hybrid cloud environments Managing identity, authentication, and access control across enterprise systems Supporting cloud migration, optimization, and hybrid infrastructure strategies Cybersecurity & Compliance Implementing and maintaining security controls aligned with organizational policies and audit requirements Managing patching, vulnerability remediation, and endpoint hardening Monitoring logs, alerts, and security events; responding to threats and incidents Supporting compliance with government and regulatory standards Project Implementation & Advanced Technical Support Leading or supporting infrastructure upgrades, deployments, and enterprise IT projects Providing Tier II/III technical support and resolving escalated issues Assisting with vendor coordination, procurement, and technology evaluations Business Continuity & Resilience Supporting disaster recovery planning and testing Maintaining backup systems and ensuring data integrity Contributing to business continuity strategies and emergency response readiness What You'll Bring Strong expertise in systems engineering, infrastructure management, and enterprise environments Experience with hybrid cloud architecture and identity management systems Advanced troubleshooting skills across servers, applications, and networks Strong documentation and process standardization capabilities Ability to translate technical concepts into practical solutions for leadership High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to public service Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience 3-5+ years of experience in systems engineering or systems administration Proficiency in Windows and Linux server environments Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity management systems Strong troubleshooting skills across enterprise infrastructure Preferred Qualifications Industry certifications (MCSE, Azure Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent) Experience with automation tools (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform) Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) Experience with enterprise monitoring, logging, and backup solutions Prior experience in government or regulated environments Ideal Candidate Profile Strategic thinker who can align infrastructure with organizational priorities Proactive and solutions-oriented with strong ownership mentality Experience supporting enterprise systems in complex environments Able to balance day-to-day operations with long-term modernization initiatives Strong collaborator who can work across departments and leadership levels Committed to transparency, integrity, and public service Work Environment & Schedule Standard hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM After-hours or weekend work may be required during maintenance windows, upgrades, or cybersecurity incidents Combination of office and occasional field work May require lifting up to 25 pounds and a valid driver's license What We Offer Stable, mission-driven career in public service Florida Retirement System (FRS) participation Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid holidays and generous leave policies Professional development and certification support Opportunity to lead IT modernization in a growing organization Direct impact on organizational performance and community service delivery The Alachua County Property Appraiser provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
