This role will help establish a unified approach to how enterprise data is collected, stored, modeled, moved, secured, governed, accessed, and consumed. The ideal candidate brings deep experience across AWS and Microsoft Azure data architectures and understands how to build data environments that support analytics, real-time processing, and AI. The role is expected to be approximately 90% architecture and 10% development over the long term. During the first 12-18 months, the position may be more hands-on as new data platforms, standards, and proofs of concept are established. Key Responsibilities Develop and lead enterprise data architecture and strategy. Evaluate how data enters the enterprise data lake, including how it is stored, formatted, accessed, moved, secured, and analyzed. Design and evolve data architecture capable of supporting real-time data requirements. Advise teams migrating data and business processes across AWS and Microsoft Azure . Evaluate and recommend appropriate cloud data services and architecture patterns, including: Data streaming Relational databases and RDS NoSQL databases ETL and ELT Analytics platforms Cloud storage and data repositories Data integration and movement tools Establish enterprise data standards, canonical data models, and data catalog practices. Support master data management and enterprise data governance initiatives. Partner with governance, security, and business teams to ensure appropriate data management practices. Address data security, privacy, PII handling, access controls, and data exposure requirements. Collaborate closely with data lake, database, engineering, and analytics teams. Assess the organization's current data maturity, identify gaps, and incorporate new initiatives into the enterprise data roadmap. Represent data architecture in enterprise-wide initiatives and technology discussions. Support AI initiatives by determining how enterprise data should be accessed, moved, prepared, governed, and securely exposed to AI platforms. Help develop centralized data capabilities that enable meaningful analytics, reporting, and business insights. Develop proofs of concept and remain hands-on enough to validate architectural concepts and recommendations. Required Qualifications Senior-level experience in enterprise data architecture, cloud data architecture, or data solutions architecture . Strong understanding of enterprise data strategy and architecture across the full data lifecycle. Significant experience designing data solutions across AWS and Azure . Ability to evaluate and select appropriate cloud data services based on business and technical requirements. Strong understanding of enterprise data lakes and modern data architecture. Experience with data analytics and data consumption architectures. Understanding of real-time data processing and data streaming. Experience with data governance, data catalogs, canonical data models, and master data management. Strong understanding of data security, privacy, PII, access, and exposure considerations. Ability to work across business, engineering, database, security, governance, and leadership teams. Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to lead through architecture and expertise rather than direct management. Ability to assess an evolving environment, identify architectural gaps, and develop a roadmap for future capabilities. Understand how data is collected, moved, stored, modeled, governed, secured, accessed, and consumed. Bring substantial experience across both AWS and Azure from a data architecture perspective. Be strategic while remaining hands-on enough to validate concepts and build proofs of concept. Influence data engineers, DBAs, security teams, governance teams, managers, and executive stakeholders. Work effectively in an evolving environment and identify new capabilities or initiatives needed to mature the organization's data strategy. Bring a curious, innovative mindset and be comfortable helping establish and evolve an enterprise data function. Role Focus This position is primarily an enterprise data architecture and strategy role . It is not intended to be a traditional DBA, data engineer, ETL developer, or general-purpose AWS Solutions Architect position. The successful candidate will bring a broad enterprise perspective with specific expertise in data architecture across AWS and Azure , and will help establish the standards, platforms, governance, and capabilities needed to support analytics, real-time data, and AI.
