Job Description
United States Suitability/Public Trust Fully remote IT Infrastructure & Network Engineering & Operations
- Overview
- GovCIO is seeking a Cloud Data & Automation Engineer to support the migration and ongoing management of DCS's large-scale evidentiary data environment within AWS GovCloud.
The engineer will focus on data migration, automation, storage lifecycle management, replication, archival, retrieval, and secure data movement across AWS, Azure, and VA on-premises environments. The position requires strong hands-on experience with Python, AWS CLI, S3/Glacier, DataSync, SnapMirror, and large-scale data migration.
- Responsibilities
- + Develop and maintain Python and AWS CLI automation for cloud data operations.
+ Design, execute, and troubleshoot large-scale data migration and transfer workflows.
+ Support AWS DataSync workflows for high-volume data transfers.
+ Configure and manage Amazon S3 storage and lifecycle policies.
+ Implement and support S3/Glacier archival and retrieval workflows.
+ Support NetApp ONTAP and SnapMirror replication activities.
+ Support migration of active datasets to FSx ONTAP and historical datasets to S3/Glacier.
+ Automate data movement, synchronization, validation, archival, and retrieval processes.
+ Monitor and troubleshoot large-scale data transfers, synchronization, storage, and performance issues.
+ Manage and optimize cloud storage, transfer, archival, and retrieval costs.
+ Support secure data flows between AWS, Azure, and VA on-premises systems.
+ Develop scripts, automation workflows, runbooks, and technical documentation.
+ Analyze data transfer and storage requirements to support scalability and operational efficiency.
+ Coordinate with cloud infrastructure engineers, AWS engineering teams, VA platform teams, and application stakeholders.
+ Establish repeatable and sustainable processes for managing large-scale evidentiary data within the cloud environment.
- Qualifications
- Required Skills and Experience
- + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, Engineering, or a related field preferred and 8+ year of experience.
Equivalent professional experience may be considered. + 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, data engineering, or cloud automation. + 3+ years of hands-on AWS experience.
+ Experience working in AWS GovCloud or comparable regulated cloud environments.
+ Strong Python scripting experience.
+ Strong experience using AWS CLI for automation and cloud operations.
+ Hands-on experience with Amazon S3.
+ Experience implementing and managing S3/Glacier lifecycle policies and archival solutions.
+ Hands-on experience with AWS DataSync.
+ Hands-on experience with NetApp ONTAP and/or SnapMirror.
+ Experience performing large-scale data migrations and transfers.
+ Experience managing terabyte
- to petabyte-scale datasets.
+ Experience automating data movement, synchronization, validation, archival, and retrieval.
+ Understanding of cloud data lifecycle management.
+ Experience monitoring and troubleshooting high-volume data transfers and storage operations.
+ Understanding of cloud storage, data transfer, retrieval, and cost optimization.
+ Experience supporting secure data flows between AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments.
+ Knowledge of cloud security and compliance requirements.
+ Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Clearance Required:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
- Preferred Skills and Experience
- + AWS certification such as Data Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Developer.
+ Experience supporting FedRAMP or federal government cloud environments.
+ Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
+ Azure cloud or data services experience.
+ Experience with enterprise storage platforms.
+ Experience supporting evidence, records, litigation, FOIA, investigative, or other highly controlled datasets.
+ Experience with database, data integration, or data processing technologies.

- USD $135,000.00
- USD $145,000.00 /Yr.
