Job Details Job Summary The Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture provides strategic leadership for the institution's enterprise architecture function, ensuring a cohesive technology vision that supports academic, research, clinical, and administrative priorities. Serving as a trusted advisor to the CIO and executive leadership, this role oversees enterprise, business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, and security architecture, aligning technology investments with institutional goals and long-term strategic objectives. The Senior Director develops the enterprise architecture strategy and roadmap, establishes governance and architectural standards, and guides modernization and digital transformation initiatives across the institution. The role leads a multidisciplinary architecture team, chairs the Architecture Review Board, and partners closely with IT and business leaders to drive collaboration, reduce technical debt, and deliver scalable, secure, and sustainable technology solutions that support mission outcomes and future growth. Core Responsibilities Defines and executes the enterprise architecture vision and multi-year roadmap aligned with institutional academic, research, clinical, and administrative priorities. Serves as the institution's senior architecture representative with executive leadership, external partners, and industry stakeholders. Establishes and chairs architecture governance forums, including the Architecture Review Board, and defines architectural standards, principles, and decision frameworks. Implements governance processes that balance standardization, risk management, and innovation while enabling efficient technology delivery. Develops and maintains the enterprise architecture operating model, services, processes, and stakeholder engagement framework. Leads enterprise, business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, and security architecture practices across the institution. Maintains current and future-state architecture models that support strategic planning, modernization, and investment decisions. Drives application portfolio rationalization and provides recommendations for investment, modernization, consolidation, and retirement strategies. Establishes enterprise data architecture standards supporting analytics, data governance, AI, and institutional decision-making. Defines architectural direction for enterprise identity, integration, API, and platform strategies. Leads modernization initiatives, including legacy system transformation, cloud adoption, platform consolidation, and technology lifecycle management. Establishes frameworks for measuring, prioritizing, and reducing technical debt across the technology portfolio. Evaluates emerging technologies and identifies opportunities to leverage innovations such as AI, advanced analytics, and new platform capabilities. Embeds architecture practices into project and product delivery through standards, reusable patterns, and advisory support. Partners with technology and business leaders to align roadmaps and resolve enterprise-wide architectural challenges. Provides architectural oversight for major procurements, vendor evaluations, and strategic technology investments. Partners with cybersecurity leadership to incorporate security, privacy, and risk management into enterprise architecture practices and standards. Ensures technology architectures support applicable regulatory, compliance, and research requirements while promoting scalable and sustainable solutions. Defines institutional cloud strategies, including workload placement, architecture standards, security baselines, and cost management practices. Provides architectural leadership for enterprise platforms, ensuring integration, interoperability, and consistent user experiences. Establishes enterprise AI and data platform strategies that support responsible, well-governed use of emerging technologies. Integrates technology risk management into architecture governance and supports enterprise risk, compliance, and audit initiatives. Establishes architecture standards that promote business continuity, disaster recovery, operational resilience, and service reliability. Partners with portfolio and program leadership to ensure technology investments align with strategic priorities, financial goals, and risk tolerance. Fosters an environment of accountability, transparency, continuous improvement, and disciplined execution. Builds and mentors a high-performing architecture team with expertise across business, application, data, cloud, integration, and infrastructure domains. Develops architecture communities of practice that promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and institutional architectural maturity. Manages the architecture function's budget, service portfolio, operational performance, and stakeholder satisfaction. Maintains and communicates enterprise technology roadmaps to support strategic planning and decision-making. Contributes to capital planning, vendor rationalization, and long-term technology investment strategies in partnership with executive leadership. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Ten (10) years of progressive experience enterprise, business, application, data, or infrastructure architecture, including a minimum of five years leading multidisciplinary architecture teams at scale. Demonstrated success defining and executing an enterprise architecture vision and multiyear roadmap in a complex, distributed institution, with measurable impact on modernization, technical debt reduction, or strategic technology direction. Proven experience establishing architecture governance, including review boards, architectural principles, reference patterns, and the decision rights that connect architecture to product, project, and procurement decisions. Depth in at least three architecture disciplines, such as business architecture, application and integration architecture, data architecture, infrastructure and cloud architecture, or security architecture, with credible working knowledge across the others. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per TexasEO-GA-48.
