Job Title:
Senior Data Engineer Job Description The Senior Data Engineer analyzes large-scale datasets from connected vehicles, with a primary focus on in-car entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and overall user experience. This role transforms complex interaction data into clear, actionable insights that improve user satisfaction, optimize system performance, and increase engagement with digital services. The Senior Data Engineer works closely with product managers and engineers to design robust data collection strategies, develop meaningful KPIs, and deliver analytics that directly shape the evolution of in-car infotainment systems. Responsibilities Analyze large datasets from connected vehicles, focusing on in-car entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and user experience to identify opportunities for software improvement. Perform detailed analytics and insight generation on user interaction data from in-car infotainment systems, including touch screen usage, voice command effectiveness, and media consumption patterns. Identify trends, usability issues, and pain points in infotainment system usage and translate them into clear, data-driven findings. Define, create, and maintain key performance indicators and dashboards to monitor the health, performance, and usage of infotainment features. Continuously track and evaluate KPIs to ensure digital services meet performance, reliability, and user satisfaction goals. Collaborate with product managers and engineers to transform analytical insights into actionable recommendations that enhance the in-car user experience. Partner with cross-functional teams to prioritize and refine software improvements based on data-driven evidence. Work with product managers and engineers to determine what data should be collected from the infotainment system to support analytics and product decisions. Optimize data collection strategies and pipelines to ensure high-quality, reliable, and relevant data from connected vehicles. Use SQL, Python, and R to build, maintain, and improve data processing workflows, analytical models, and reporting solutions. Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Tableau to communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Leverage analytic platforms such as Amplitude and Firebase to track user behavior, feature adoption, and engagement with digital services. Document methodologies, metrics definitions, and analytical findings to support transparency, reproducibility, and continuous improvement. Essential Skills Expert-level proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and managing large datasets. Expert-level proficiency in Python for data engineering, data analysis, and building analytical workflows. Expert-level proficiency in R for statistical analysis, modeling, and advanced analytics. Proven experience in data analysis, particularly with large and complex datasets. Proven experience in data engineering with a focus on vehicle data analytics or similar telemetry data. Proven experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau to build clear, insightful dashboards. Proven experience with analytic platforms such as Amplitude and Firebase for tracking user behavior and feature usage. Hands-on experience in KPI development and monitoring to measure software performance and user engagement. Experience working with navigation software, in-car entertainment systems, and voice communication systems from a data and analytics perspective. Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers and engineers to translate data insights into product improvements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience analyzing user interaction data from in-car infotainment systems, including touch screens, voice commands, and media consumption. Background in vehicle data analytics or connected device data analysis. Strong understanding of user experience metrics and how to measure usability and engagement in digital products. Ability to design and refine data collection strategies for complex, connected systems. Strong communication skills to present complex analytical findings in a clear and actionable way to diverse stakeholders. Work Environment The role centers on working with data generated by connected vehicles and in-car infotainment systems, focusing on digital services such as entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and voice communication. You will work extensively with SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Amplitude, and Firebase in a technology-driven environment that emphasizes data-informed decision-making. Collaboration with product managers and engineers is frequent, with a shared goal of continuously improving the in-car user experience through high-quality analytics and well-designed KPIs. The environment values analytical rigor, clear communication, and a strong focus on user-centric product enhancements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Ypsilanti, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
