Operations Management Position Summary Oceanic Enterprises is seeking a detail-oriented Data Analyst to support our hotel operations team through labor analysis, scheduling optimization, operational reporting, and performance monitoring across our portfolio of properties. The Data Analyst will review labor hours, staffing schedules, hotel activity, and operational performance to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control labor costs. This position will work closely with the Operations Team and property managers to provide clear, actionable daily and weekly reports that help management make informed staffing and operational decisions. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, comfortable working with spreadsheets and multiple data sources, and able to translate operational data into practical recommendations. Key ResponsibilitiesLabor & Payroll Analysis Review daily and weekly employee labor hours across hotel departments and properties. Compare scheduled hours versus actual worked hours and identify significant variances. Monitor overtime, early clock-ins, late clock-outs, missed punches, and other labor exceptions. Analyze labor hours in relation to hotel occupancy, rooms sold, rooms cleaned, arrivals, departures, and other operational activity. Identify unusual labor trends and provide findings to the Operations Team. Assist management in controlling labor costs while maintaining appropriate staffing levels and service standards. Scheduling & Staffing Optimization Review property staffing schedules and evaluate whether staffing levels align with expected hotel activity. Analyze occupancy forecasts, arrivals, departures, housekeeping workload, and other operational indicators to support scheduling decisions. Identify opportunities to improve employee scheduling and reduce unnecessary labor hours or overtime. Compare forecasted staffing needs with actual operational results. Work with Operations and property managers to develop more efficient staffing models. Recommend schedule adjustments based on historical trends, occupancy forecasts, workload, and departmental productivity. Operational Analysis Analyze hotel operations to identify inefficiencies, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Review departmental productivity, including housekeeping, front desk, maintenance, and other operational areas.
Develop performance measurements such as:
Labor hours per occupied room Labor cost per occupied room Rooms cleaned per housekeeping labor hour Scheduled versus actual labor hours Overtime hours Labor variance by department and property Staffing levels compared with occupancy Productivity trends Identify operational exceptions requiring management attention. Daily Reporting Prepare and distribute daily operational reports covering areas such as: Occupancy and rooms sold Arrivals and departures Scheduled versus actual labor hours Labor variances Housekeeping productivity Overtime and attendance exceptions Operational trends or unusual activity Areas requiring management review or follow-up Reports should clearly highlight significant variances and provide a concise explanation of the findings. Weekly Reporting Prepare a comprehensive weekly analysis for the Operations Team that includes: Labor performance by property Departmental labor trends Schedule versus actual hours Overtime analysis Occupancy versus staffing levels Housekeeping productivity Week-over-week comparisons Operational efficiency trends Significant exceptions or concerns Recommended areas for improvement The Data Analyst should be able to present findings in a way that allows management to quickly understand what happened, why it happened, and where action may be needed. Data Management & Reporting Tools Maintain organized operational and labor tracking spreadsheets. Consolidate information from payroll, scheduling, PMS, and operational systems. Build and maintain Excel reports, dashboards, formulas, and data models. Ensure reporting data is accurate and investigate discrepancies before reports are distributed. Develop standardized reporting templates for use across multiple hotel properties. Improve and automate recurring reports whenever possible. Maintain historical data to identify trends and compare property performance over time. Operations Team Support Participate in daily and weekly Operations meetings as needed. Present key findings and explain significant labor or operational variances. Work with property managers to understand the reasons behind unusual results. Follow up on operational issues identified through reporting. Assist the Operations Team with special analysis projects and performance reviews. Provide data to support budgeting, forecasting, staffing, and operational planning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business, Finance, Accounting, Hospitality Management, Economics, or a related field preferred. Previous experience in data analysis, operations analysis, financial analysis, workforce analysis, or hospitality operations preferred but not required. Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills. Experience working with large datasets and combining information from multiple sources. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to identify trends and explain data in clear business terms. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to meet daily and weekly reporting deadlines. Comfortable communicating findings to managers and senior leadership. Hospitality or multi-location business experience is a plus. Preferred Technical Skills Experience with some of the following is preferred: Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, conditional formatting, charts, and advanced formulas Google Sheets Payroll and timekeeping systems Hotel Property Management Systems (PMS) Scheduling or workforce-management software Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting/dashboard tools SQL or other data-analysis tools Automated reporting and data visualization Key Performance Expectations Success in this position will be measured by the ability to: Deliver accurate daily and weekly reports on time.
