Job Description

UPMC is hiring a Data Analytics Specialist for the Center of Nursing Excellence. The position will work primary daylight Monday-Friday hybrid work schedule. You will be required to be office 2-3 days per week. Supports the design, management, completion, and presentation of analyses of quality, workforce, and programmatic data related to CNE priorities. This role requires strong project coordination and analytical skills, working knowledge of quality improvement and research workflows, and the ability to partner with stakeholders across UPMC to support multidisciplinary initiatives. The Senior Data Analytics Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of QI/research submission and tracking workflows, online submission tools, and access to ongoing project information for Specialists, CNOs, and CNE leadership. This role conducts workforce metrics and care quality outcomes analyses, evaluates the effectiveness of Education, Nurse Residency, OCAP, TSAM, and other CNE initiatives, and translates findings into dashboards, graphics, presentations, and decision-support materials for leaders. This role also supports assessment and optimization of Power BI and related reporting tools to ensure alignment with departmental business objectives and supports written research grant applications through data analytics and editing for clarity, formatting, and presentation. This position independently manages assigned projects and workstreams, identifies stakeholders, tracks milestones and deliverables, communicates progress, and escalates issues as appropriate. The Senior Data Analytics Specialist may provide guidance, training, and support to team members in areas of subject-matter expertise and contributes to the identification of opportunities to improve quality, clinical, or operational performance.
Responsibilities:
Design, perform, and interpret statistical, financial, and programmatic analyses. Translate complex technical results into decision quality information for both technical and non-technical audiences internal and external to the company. Identify trends in expenses, utilization, medical quality, and other areas. Investigate variances and derive solutions to cost increases and quality issues., implement, and monitor effectiveness of these solutions. Design and perform cost/benefit analysis. Support project analysts and project team members in completing defined portions of complex projects Manage assigned projects or workstreams from initiation to completion, tracking goals, scope, deliverables, milestones, risks, and project status in partnership with leaders and stakeholders. Meet deadlines and turnaround times set by managers and department director (these deadlines and turnaround times will, at times, require the employee to work until the project is completed, meaning extended daily work hours, extended work weeks, or both). Develop, implement, and evaluate an efficient QI/research submission and tracking workflow in partnership with the Nurse Scientist, including assessing the workflow once operational, identifying opportunities for improvement, supporting development of an online submission portal, and ensuring Specialists, CNOs, and CNE leadership have access to ongoing QI/research project information. Conduct data analysis of workforce metrics and care quality outcomes for internal use, including evaluating the effectiveness of Clinical Education, Nurse Residency, OCAP, TSAM, and other CNE projects. Develop graphics, BI dashboards, tables, charts, graphs, and presentations that display data clearly and translate findings into actionable recommendations for leaders and stakeholders. Assess and optimize Power BI and related reporting tools by conducting a comprehensive inventory of reporting, analytics, dashboard, and data visualization resources used across the department; evaluating current platforms, data sources, reports, and workflows to identify overlap, duplication, and gaps; documenting tool ownership, functionality, user adoption, licensing, and maintenance requirements; and assessing alignment with departmental business objectives. Support written research grant applications by conducting data analytics for inclusion in submissions and editing applications for formatting, clarity, and presentation.
