The Rock Island Arsenal - Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center is a state of the art, vertically integrated metal manufacturing facility. We are a readiness provider for the Department of War, designed to meet the needs of America's Warfighter. We're looking for a Data Scientist to join our team and put data to work on real operational challenges. This isn't about building dashboards for the sake of it - you'll work directly with leaders across the organization to understand what's actually needed, then use analytics, modeling, and visualization to get there. The goal is decisions that are faster, smarter, and grounded in evidence. This role is a strong fit for recent graduates and alumni who are curious, analytical, and collaborative, with an interest in statistics, data analysis, programming, machine learning, or business intelligence. Key Responsibilities & Main Duties Collect, organize, integrate, and analyze data from multiple sources and systems. Develop and improve data processes, models, and methods that increase the reliability, quality, and efficiency of information used for analysis and planning. Use analytical tools and programming languages—such as Python, Structured Query Language (SQL), Power BI, SAS, Oracle, and other data analytics platforms—to conduct research, analysis, and model-development projects. Apply statistical, mathematical, forecasting, predictive, machine-learning, data-mining, and visualization techniques to identify trends, evaluate data, and support decisions. Assess data sources, data flows, system dependencies, and relationships to help develop logical and physical data models. Identify data gaps, deficiencies, and process shortfalls; recommend improvements and implement approved updates to data architecture and reporting processes. Build automated reports, dashboards, and data-visualization products that are clear, intuitive, and tailored to customer and leadership needs. Communicate technical results, findings, and actionable recommendations through presentations, reports, dashboards, and briefings for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. Collaborate with process owners, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand business challenges, define data requirements, and develop solutions. Gather user feedback throughout dashboard and reporting development and refine products to improve usability and value. Develop mathematical and statistical models to support evaluations, research studies, and operations-research analyses involving diverse and complex data sources. Participate in working groups, meetings, conferences, and other forums focused on data analytics, process improvement, technology, and decision support. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
