Immediate Opening About inQ inQ is a growing technology and engineering company supporting mission-critical programs across the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. Our teams bring expertise in systems engineering, software development, cybersecurity, cloud, data, AI/ML, and advanced engineering solutions to some of the nation's most challenging missions. We are seeking talented early-career professionals who enjoy solving complex problems, working alongside highly technical teams, and making an immediate contribution to national security missions. Position Summary inQ is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer specializing in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), software engineering, and modeling and simulation to provide senior technical leadership for DoD and Intelligence Community missions. This hybrid role combines advanced MBSE with hands-on software engineering. The successful candidate will lead development of system architectures and behavioral models in SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw and direct the software that automates, integrates, executes, analyzes, and validates those models. The Principal Systems Engineer will establish an integrated engineering approach connecting systems architecture, SysML models, simulation, software, data, and mission analysis, while providing technical direction and mentorship across the MBSE and software engineering team. What You'll Do- Define MBSE and software architecture approaches, modeling standards, integration patterns, and technical methodologies for the program.
- Provide technical direction and oversight to multidisciplinary MBSE, software, and modeling and simulation teams.
- Lead system, mission, and scenario analysis activities supporting campaign planning and wargaming, and lead technical quality reviews.
- Serve as a senior technical interface with government customers and program leadership.
- Lead technical architecture reviews, engineering working groups, model walkthroughs, and software and model integration reviews.
- Architect and develop system reference, baseline threat, and behavioral models using SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw.
- Direct and contribute to development of software, services, and APIs that automate model creation, transformation, analysis, verification, and validation.
- Guide integration of MBSE models with simulation environments, analytical tools, physics-based models, and engineering data sources.
- Establish software engineering practices that improve model repeatability, automation, configuration management, testing, and scalability.
- Own technical risk: identify assumptions, dependencies, gaps, limitations, and integration risks, and drive them to resolution.
- Supervise and mentor junior, mid-level, and senior engineers, and support technical hiring and skills development.
- Recommend MBSE, software, automation, and modeling and simulation tools, processes, and continuous improvements.
- Develop and present technical documentation, engineering analyses, and executive-level customer briefings. What You'll Bring
- Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- More than 10 years of relevant professional experience spanning systems engineering, software engineering, MBSE, modeling and simulation, engineering analysis, or related disciplines.
- Extensive systems engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience developing and analyzing complex system models using SysML and tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw.
- Strong software engineering and programming experience, with proficiency in one or more languages such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
- Experience developing software used for modeling, simulation, engineering analysis, automation, or data processing.
- Experience integrating software, engineering models, simulation environments, APIs, and data sources.
- Understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, APIs, data structures, automated testing, configuration management, and source control.
- Ability to translate engineering and mission requirements into both system models and software implementations.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and complex engineering activities.
- Experience developing technical analysis reports and presenting findings to customers and senior stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite in the Dayton / Wright-Patterson AFB area.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced expertise with SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw.

- Experience with AFSIM, NGTS, ArcGIS, or comparable modeling and simulation environments.
- Experience developing APIs, integration services, or software interfaces between engineering and modeling tools.
- Experience with model transformations, model data extraction, or programmatic manipulation of engineering models.
- Experience with databases and structured engineering and model data.
- Experience with Git/GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD, automated testing, DevSecOps, and containerized applications.
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, or large datasets.
- Experience defining MBSE standards, model architecture, governance, software integration patterns, and engineering best practices.
- Previous DoD or Intelligence Community Scientific and Technical Intelligence experience, including NASIC/NSIC or related missions.
