Position Description:
CGI Federal is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to support the design, administration, optimization, and sustainment of mission-critical database environments supporting a major federal modernization program. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of databases across cloud and on-prem infrastructures and partners closely with engineering, DevSecOps, data migration, and application teams to maintain high-quality, stable data operations.Your future duties and responsibilities:
Database Administration & Operations- Administer, configure, and maintain relational and NoSQL databases supporting enterprise applications and data workflows
- Monitor database health, performance, storage utilization, and availability
- Optimize queries, indexes, and configurations to maximize performance and throughput
- Conduct database maintenance including backups, restores, patching, upgrades, and replication Data Integrity, Security & Compliance
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and recoverability across environments
- Implement database security controls, encryption, auditing, and RBAC policies
- Support compliance with federal security standards for classified environments
- Work with security teams to address vulnerabilities and hardening requirements Cloud & Modernization Support
- Support cloud database operations, migrations, and modernization efforts (AWS preferred)
- Partner with data engineering and ETL/migration teams on integration, mapping, and transformation needs
- Assist with migration of legacy databases into modern cloud-based architectures Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization
- Diagnose and resolve database issues affecting applications, pipelines, and data workflows
- Perform root-cause analysis on performance degradation or data anomalies
- Collaborate with full-stack engineers, QA teams, and cloud engineers to resolve integration-related issues Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain architecture diagrams, configuration documents, runbooks, and SOPs
- Provide performance metrics, incident overviews, and operational reporting to leadership
- Document changes, upgrades, and tuning actions for continuity and audit requirements Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
- Must have an Active Top Secret Security Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship
- Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in database administration or data platform operations
- Expertise with enterprise RDBMS platforms (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.)
- Experience with SQL optimization, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and tuning
- Experience supporting cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB preferred)
- Strong understanding of database security, encryption, backup/recovery, clustering, and replication
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal modernization or national-security programs
- Experience with microservices, containerized workloads, and DevSecOps environments
- Familiarity with ETL pipelines, large-scale data migrations, and database modernization
- Scripting experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell) Due to the nature of this government contract, US Citizenship is required.
