UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a professional level Systems Database Administrator V to join Infrastructure and Communication Technologies (ICT), Database Platforms, a unit within
UFIT. UF
Information Technology (UFIT) enables teaching, learning, research, and service on campus and across the region with state-of-the-art enterprise IT systems, including SEC and SUS universities, and the opportunity to teach using HiPerGator. Infrastructure and Communication Technology (ICT) is a division of UF Information Technology that manages the UF Data Center and delivers hosted server, storage, virtualization, database, email, and related systems, in addition to connecting the University of Florida campuses to the world via high-speed data, video, Wi-Fi, telecommunications, and VoIP services. The Database Platform team is responsible for the architecture, engineering, and administration of UFIT's core database infrastructure. They design, build, and maintain critical database services, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle and more. This role serves as a senior technical designer for database infrastructure solutions and supporting software systems. You will provide expert-level administration, analysis, and maintenance for complex Enterprise Database Systems, ensuring the performance and reliability of critical database infrastructures. As a subject matter expert, you will provide technical guidance to other staff, assist with complex troubleshooting, and coordinate technical efforts for projects. Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are: Expert System Administration & High Availability (40%): Conduct expert administration of complex Enterprise Database Systems with a primary focus on MS SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and MS Windows Failover Clustering. Maintain secondary expectations for other team platforms including Linux OS, VMware, MySQL, PostgresSQL, and Oracle. Compliance & Secure Environments (10%): When required for specific environments, ensure database systems comply with strict security frameworks, including
CJIS, FISMA
. Technical Design & Engineering (25%): Serve as a senior designer for infrastructure solutions, developing technology requirements and conducting vendor solution analysis for on-premise and public cloud environments. Mentorship & Technical Coordination (10%): Mentor less experienced administrators, ensure implementation follows established procedures, and coordinate technical initiatives with other infrastructure support teams. Documentation, Training, & Quality Control (5%): Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation to ensure smooth operation of database systems. Project Guidance & Strategy (10%): Provide technical guidance for special projects, participate in tactical and strategic planning, and assist management with capacity and budget analysis. Expected Salary:
$98,000 - $110,000; Commensurate based on education and experience.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE
Expert-level administration and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) and Windows OS environments (VM and Bare-metal). Advanced experience with MSSQL Always On High Availability (HA) technologies and Windows Failover Clustering. Experience managing database systems within CJIS and FISMA environments, or other highly regulated data frameworks, when required. Proficiency in secondary team platforms including Linux OS, MySQL, and Oracle Enterprise Database. Infrastructure deployment and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Terraform. SKILLS Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all constituencies. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous complex projects with minimal supervision. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and a dedicated customer service-oriented approach.
KNOWLEDGE
Expert knowledge of Windows Core remote administration, including Group Policy and RSAT tools. Deep understanding of current IT standards, emerging trends, and federal/state privacy regulations (including FERPA, HIPAA, and PII). Knowledge of automation and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for system optimization. Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMWare and monitoring applications (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, or SCOM).

Ability to coordinate technical efforts and provide guidance for medium-to-large sized projects involving cross-functional teams.
