Full Job Description Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Data Center Administrator 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and maintaining Garmin's data center infrastructure and operational systems. This role performs intermediate-level operational and infrastructure tasks, including troubleshooting, hardware deployments, system maintenance, and operational improvements. Working with a moderate level of independence, this position ensures the reliability, performance, and security of data center systems while assisting with infrastructure projects, operational improvements, and mentoring junior team members.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions Monitor and maintain data center infrastructure and systems to ensure reliability and availability. Respond to system alerts and incidents, troubleshoot root causes, and implement corrective actions. Participate in the on-call rotation and provide support for critical infrastructure incidents. Perform system maintenance activities including patching, firmware updates, and infrastructure health checks. Coordinate and execute server installations, rack deployments, cabling, and hardware lifecycle activities. Support physical infrastructure including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, power systems, and environmental monitoring. Assist in managing capacity planning related to power, cooling, rack space, and equipment density. Implement infrastructure upgrades and assist with larger system deployments. Execute infrastructure changes through established change management processes. Maintain and improve documentation related to infrastructure architecture, operational procedures, and troubleshooting. Develop and maintain work instructions and knowledge base documentation. Ensure infrastructure systems adhere to established security standards and operational controls. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, performance, and reliability. Participate in evaluating technologies, tools, and vendors to support infrastructure improvements. Provide guidance and support to Data Center Administrator 1 team members. Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, facilities, and application teams to support operational needs. Communicate operational changes, incidents, and infrastructure updates to relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another technology related field AND a minimum of 2 years of IT infrastructure, systems administration, or data center operations or other relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Demonstrated troubleshooting ability across hardware, infrastructure, and system-level issues Demonstrated experience in successful implementation of technology solutions Ability to work independently and manage multiple operational priorities Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to work within data center environments including standing, climbing ladders, and working around rack-mounted equipment Desired Qualifications Outstanding academics Previous experience working in a team environment Experience with enterprise server hardware and data center infrastructure Familiarity with monitoring systems, asset management tools, and infrastructure management platforms Experience supporting compliance frameworks such as SOX or PCI Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
