Job Description

Job Summary The SQL Database Administrator will support a multi-year initiative to migrate on-premises SQL environments into Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is ideal for a DBA with strong experience in SQL Server administration, automation, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud modernization. The position involves designing and implementing migration plans, building cloud-ready SQL environments, enhancing Terraform templates and GitLab pipelines, and partnering with engineering and application teams to ensure secure, scalable, and performant deployments. The DBA will also support ongoing SQL operations across both cloud and on-prem environments. Key Responsibilities Lead migrations of SQL applications from on-prem environments to GCP as part of a structured cloud modernization program. Design migration architecture for each application, including environment buildout, repository setup, automation pipelines, and standardized playbook creation. Develop and enhance Terraform templates, automation scripts, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines to support cloud deployments. Evaluate existing artifacts and processes from partner teams, enhancing or recreating them as needed. Configure and maintain cloud SQL environments including monitoring, backups, disaster recovery, and troubleshooting. Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and application teams to ensure secure, compliant, and high-performing migration patterns. During non-migration periods, receive training and provide operational support for on-prem SQL environments, including maintenance and troubleshooting. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across database operations, cloud automation, and infrastructure processes. Required Qualifications 5+ years of SQL Server operations DBA experience. Hands-on experience migrating SQL workloads from on-prem to cloud environments (GCP or AWS preferred). Strong proficiency in PowerShell (preferred) and/or T-SQL. Experience with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code. Familiarity with GitLab for source control and CI/CD pipeline automation. Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, networking, IAM, security, and automated provisioning in GCP or AWS. Experience creating architecture diagrams, runbooks, and operational playbooks. Ability to troubleshoot performance and availability issues in cloud and on-prem SQL environments. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work onsite 4 days per week in Charlotte, NC.
Primary technical skills:
5+ years SQL Database Administration 3+ years T-SQL programming 2+ years GCP or AWS cloud computing 1+ year Terraform or data pipeline automation Preferred Qualifications Experience migrating or modernizing mission-critical SQL applications. Knowledge of Google Cloud SQL, GCE, GKE, BigQuery, or related data services. Familiarity with SRE/DevOps principles and operational automation frameworks. Experience designing or improving cloud database automation workflows.
