Job Description

Job Description Insight Global is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Data Center Design for a leading industrial client supporting next-generation data center solutions. This individual will play a critical role in the detailed design of containerized and modular data center systems, owning mechanical architecture from concept through manufacturing. The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on data center design experience, strong SolidWorks expertise, and a proven ability to translate customer requirements into scalable, build-ready engineering solutions. This is a highly visible, customer-facing role with a significant impact on new product development in a fast-growing data center portfolio.
Day-to-Day:
Lead detailed mechanical design for modular and containerized data center products Own data center layouts, mechanical systems, and supporting infrastructure Design and integrate cooling and air handling systems, including liquid cooling Create and review manufacturing and fabrication drawings Perform stress, flow, and thermal calculations to support designs Coordinate with contract manufacturers to finalize component designs Collaborate with drafters and supporting engineers to deliver stamp-ready packages Support customer-facing technical discussions and design reviews Evaluate existing designs and identify improvements for scalability and performance Travel (~5%) to support manufacturing, design reviews, or customer engagements We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. Skills and Requirements 3+ years of hands-on data center design experience Strong experience with containerized / modular data centers BS in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred) Deep expertise in mechanical systems for data centers, including: Cooling systems and liquid cooling Air handling systems (CRAC, CRAH, air handlers) Indoor primary and secondary mechanical networks Outdoor plant systems Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar CAD tools) Experience producing full manufacturing drawing packages (not just conceptual CAD) Ability to perform regular engineering calculations (stress, flow, thermal) Understanding of broader data center systems beyond mechanical: Power distribution (post-breaker) Cable tray integration Fire suppression BMS and conveyance systems Experience supporting customer-facing design efforts Ability to translate customer requirements into build-ready, stamp-ready designs
Plusses:
Experience designing containerized data centers end-to-end Background in engineering consulting (data center-focused) Competence with simple FEA Experience coordinating with contract manufacturers Exposure to product development for scalable engineering solutions Degree from a top 10-20 engineering university Consulting or management consulting background paired with strong technical depth
