We are looking for a dependable, hands-on individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Data Center Technician . This is an entry-level position intended for someone who has a combination of hands-on work experience and some basic IT education or training . Prior professional data center or IT employment is not required, but applicants should have completed, or currently be taking, computer, networking, information technology, cybersecurity or similar computer technical classes, training or certifications . Candidates with backgrounds in construction, electrical work, low-voltage wiring, cable installation, telecommunications, maintenance, mechanical work, or similar hands-on trades are especially encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate enjoys physical, hands-on work but also has a genuine interest in computers and networking and wants to continue developing those skills in a real data center environment.Responsibilities Typical duties will include:
Installing and removing servers, switches, network equipment, and other data center hardware Racking and unracking servers and other equipment Installing equipment rails, shelves, cable management, and related hardware Running and terminating Ethernet/network cabling Running, routing, and organizing fiber-optic cabling Installing and maintaining structured cabling Labeling cables, equipment, racks, and connections Maintaining clean and organized equipment racks Cleaning equipment and data center areas Sorting, organizing, testing, and inventorying equipment Moving equipment between racks and storage areas Assisting with equipment replacements and upgrades Performing basic computer and network troubleshooting Learning how servers, switches, routers, storage systems, fiber connections, and other data center systems operate Following wiring diagrams, technical instructions, and equipment installation procedures Helping maintain a clean, safe, and professional data center environment Performing general maintenance and other hands-on work as needed Required Qualifications Applicants should: Have completed or currently be taking some form of IT, computer, networking, or related technical training or coursework Have a basic understanding of computers and computer hardware Have a genuine interest in networking and information technology Want to continue learning and expanding their technical knowledge Enjoy hands-on work Be mechanically inclined Be comfortable using basic hand and power tools Be able to follow instructions and pay close attention to detail Take pride in neat, organized work Be willing to ask questions and learn from experienced technicians Be dependable and arrive to work on time Be able to work independently after being trained Be comfortable working around electrical and electronic equipment Be comfortable working on ladders and around equipment racks Be able to lift and move computer and network equipment Be willing to perform cleaning, organization, and routine maintenance in addition to technical work Acceptable IT Training or Education Examples include: High school computer or networking classes Technical school or trade school IT programs Community college computer or networking courses College-level information technology or computer classes CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certification training Cisco networking or CCNA coursework Cybersecurity training that includes computer or networking fundamentals Computer repair or hardware classes A degree or certification is not required , but applicants should have enough prior exposure to demonstrate a real interest in computers and networking. Helpful Hands-On Experience Experience in any of the following is helpful: Construction Electrical work Low-voltage wiring Ethernet/network cabling Fiber-optic installation Telephone or telecommunications wiring Security or alarm system installation HVAC or mechanical maintenance Computer repair Building or upgrading computers Home or small-business networking Server or network equipment installation Warehouse or equipment maintenance Other skilled-trade or hands-on technical work Opportunity to Learn This position is intended for someone who wants to turn basic IT knowledge into practical, real-world experience. As your skills and experience develop, you will have opportunities to learn more about: Computer hardware Servers and storage systems Ethernet networking Network switches and routers Fiber-optic networking Structured cabling Data center power and cooling systems Equipment troubleshooting Network troubleshooting Data center operations You do not need to already know how to configure enterprise servers, switches, or routers. We are looking for someone who has a basic IT foundation and wants to continue learning. Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position and is not primarily a desk job.Applicants should be able to:
Lift and carry servers and other equipment Work from ladders when necessary Bend, kneel, reach, and work around equipment racks Use hand and power tools safely Work in equipment rooms and data center environments Perform cable installation above, below, and around equipment racks Compensation Starting pay is $18.00 per hour. This position does not currently include employee benefits . The position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience and develop skills in computers, networking, fiber optics, structured cabling, servers, and data center operations. Local Applicants Only Applicants must currently live in the Tyler, Texas area or within reasonable commuting distance . This is an on-site position . Remote work is not available. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate might be someone who has taken IT or networking classes and enjoys technology but also prefers working with their hands instead of sitting at a desk all day. You may currently work in construction, cabling, maintenance, installation, computer repair, or another hands-on field while taking IT classes or studying computers and networking on your own. We are specifically looking for someone who wants to build a career in technology and continue developing their knowledge of computers, networking, fiber, servers, and data center systems . If you are dependable, mechanically inclined, have some basic IT education or training, enjoy hands-on work, and are motivated to learn, we would like to hear from you.Pay:
