Job Description :
The ECS IT Support group seeking a motivated and technically skilled student worker to assist the IT support group within the School of Engineering & Computer Science. This individual will help to design, and implement back-end database-driven web systems to help improve operations and academic processes along with providing general IT support for the School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Design, develop, and maintain PHP-based web applications to improve departmental processes. Develop user interfaces that are functional, intuitive, and accessible. Test and debug applications to ensure reliability, performance, and security. Participate in project planning meetings with supervisor and IT Support staff. Follow institutional data security and privacy requirements when working with student and academic information. Maintain version control and software development best practices. Provide general IT support and troubleshooting when requested. Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive information and data. Assist with various projects, activities and tasks related to business operations Ability to comply with University policies Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Required Qualifications :
Current student with demonstrated experience in: Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field. SQL database design and querying. PHP, HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with MySQL, MariaDB, or Microsoft SQL Server. Familiarity with database normalization and relational database concepts. Experience using Git or other version control systems. Knowledge of web application security principles. Experience developing applications in a Linux or Windows server environment. Familiarity with API integration and data exchange formats such as JSON or XML. Prior experience working on academic, research, or administrative software projects.
Physical and Working Conditions :
