Job Description

Reliable data rarely gets noticed when everything is working properly. That's exactly the point. We're hiring a Database Administrator (DBA) to look after the databases that sit behind key business systems and applications. This role is focused on keeping those environments secure, available and performing as they should, while making sensible improvements as requirements grow. It's a position for someone who enjoys the detail: investigating a slow query, planning an upgrade properly, checking backups before they become important and understanding what is happening behind the application rather than simply restarting it. Your Core Focus Performance & Reliability Monitor database health, investigate performance issues, optimise queries and help maintain strong availability across production environments. Administration Handle database configuration, maintenance, patching, upgrades and routine administration. Backup & Recovery Maintain backup processes, test recovery procedures and make sure critical data can be restored when required. Security Manage database permissions, user access and security controls while supporting internal data protection requirements. Troubleshooting Investigate database errors, failed jobs, capacity issues and application-related database problems. Development Support Work with developers and technical teams on database changes, deployments, queries and new system requirements. Technical Background We're looking for commercial experience administering relational database environments, ideally with strong knowledge of one or more of the following: Microsoft SQL Server PostgreSQL MySQL Oracle T-SQL or SQL Database monitoring and performance tuning Backup, restore and disaster recovery Indexing and query optimisation High availability and replication Database security and permissions Data migration and database upgrades Experience with Azure
SQL, AWS
database services, PowerShell, automation or cloud-based database environments would be useful. Beyond Routine Maintenance There will always be scheduled maintenance and regular checks, but we don't want the DBA function to be purely reactive. You'll be encouraged to identify recurring problems, automate repetitive work where appropriate and recommend changes that improve performance, resilience or security. That means being comfortable taking ownership of an issue, documenting what has changed and communicating clearly with developers, infrastructure teams and other technical colleagues. What We Value Strong technical knowledge matters, but so does judgement. We're looking for someone methodical, dependable and careful with production environments. Someone who understands that a five-minute database change can have much wider consequences if it isn't properly considered. If you have solid Database Administrator experience and enjoy working in an environment where reliability and good technical standards are taken seriously, we'd be interested in hearing from you. Please submit your resume outlining the database platforms and environments you have supported. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted directly regarding the next stage.
