TS/SCI The Senior Computer and Information Systems Engineer Specialist leads the design, implementation, and optimization of computer and information systems to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of IT infrastructure supporting defense-related operations. This advanced-level position involves applying deep technical expertise, solving complex challenges, and driving strategic IT initiatives. The role requires leadership in system integration, cybersecurity, and compliance, as well as mentoring junior staff and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve organizational and client objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design, Implementation, and Optimization
Lead the architecture, design, and deployment of complex IT systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure, ensuring alignment with DoD standards (e.g., DISA STIGs, RMF).
Oversee system performance monitoring and optimization using advanced tools such as Splunk, SolarWinds, or similar platforms, ensuring high availability and scalability.
Develop and implement strategies for system upgrades, migrations, and modernization to support evolving mission requirements.
Manage virtualized environments and cloud-based systems (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government), ensuring secure and efficient operations.
Technology Strategy and Integration
Serve as a technical lead for integrating new technologies into existing systems, ensuring compatibility, security, and minimal disruption to operations.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define system requirements, develop technical roadmaps, and recommend innovative solutions to meet organizational and client needs.
Conduct advanced testing, validation, and risk assessments for system changes, ensuring compliance with DoD and industry standards.
Cybersecurity Leadership
Lead the implementation of advanced cybersecurity measures, including vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and incident response.
Develop and enforce system hardening policies, including firewall configurations, access controls, and encryption protocols.
Ensure full compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks, such as
RMF, NIST
800-53, and CMMC, and prepare systems for audits and certifications.
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for cybersecurity, advising stakeholders on risk mitigation strategies and emerging threats.
Leadership and Mentoring
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.
Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of IT projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
Serve as a point of escalation for complex technical issues, providing guidance and resolution.
Documentation and Reporting
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of system architectures, configurations, and processes to support audits, compliance reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for senior leadership and clients, highlighting system performance, cybersecurity posture, and strategic recommendations.
Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for IT operations.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a liaison between technical teams, project managers, and clients, ensuring alignment of IT initiatives with mission objectives.
Represent the organization in technical discussions with external vendors, partners, and government agencies.
Contribute to organizational IT strategy by evaluating emerging technologies and recommending adoption plans. Manager Defined Field Own vulnerability management and hardening: ACAS/Nessus/SCAP scanning, STIG checklist generation/validation, and baseline enforcement using CM tools and automation (Puppet/Ansible; PowerShell/Python/Bash).
Operate Continuous Monitoring and response: define dashboards, tune SIEM (Splunk or equivalent), set remediation SLAs, and track
MTTD/MTTR
including incident response/playbooks.
Oversee platform operations and recovery: Windows Domain services (GPO, DCs, DNS, DHCP), Red Hat patching/hardening, virtualization (VMware/Hyper V), and backup/recovery testing.
Support system and network security accreditation: map RMF controls for systems, and coordinate secure network segmentation, firewall/switch configuration, and datacenter/rack/cabling needs.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
4+ years of experience in IT systems engineering, administration, or a related field.
Advanced knowledge of computer systems, networking, and IT infrastructure concepts.
Expertise in cybersecurity principles and practices, including
RMF, NIST
800-53, and CMMC compliance.
Proven experience in system design, integration, and optimization.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Extensive experience with DoD IT systems, standards, and protocols (e.g., DISA STIGs, CMMC).
Proficiency with advanced tools such as Splunk, SolarWinds, Nessus, or ServiceNow.
Certifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
