Job Description

Position Vacancy Announcement:
Florida A&M University is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Data Tech Transfer (Program Manager) vacancy. Requirements Manage technology transfer activities throughout the innovation lifecycle, including invention disclosure, intellectual property assessment, commercialization planning, licensing support, and technology marketing; Assist faculty, researchers, and inventors in evaluating inventions, navigating intellectual property protection, and pursuing commercialization opportunities; Coordinate activities with external intellectual property counsel, patent management firms, licensing organizations, and commercialization partners to support management of the University's intellectual property portfolio; Maintain technology transfer records, intellectual property databases, and program documentation to support operational management, reporting, and compliance; Support commercialization strategies that maximize the impact and market potential of University technologies; Identify and cultivate relationships with potential licensees, entrepreneurs, investors, industry partners, and commercialization organizations; Coordinate technology marketing activities and facilitate interactions among faculty inventors, industry representatives, and external commercialization partners; Support startup development, entrepreneurial initiatives, proof-of-concept activities, and programs that promote research translation and economic development. Coordinate the preparation, routing, administration, and tracking of technology transfer-related agreements, including nondisclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, option agreements, licensing agreements, and inter-institutional agreements; Assist with review and coordination of intellectual property provisions contained in sponsored research agreements and other research-related contracts; Monitor agreement milestones, reporting requirements, royalty obligations, and contractual compliance while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and outreach activities related to intellectual property, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and innovation; Provide guidance to faculty, researchers, students, and staff regarding University intellectual property policies, commercialization processes, and available technology transfer resources; Promote awareness of innovation programs, commercialization services, and entrepreneurial opportunities across the University community. Collaborate with Research Development, Sponsored Programs, Research Compliance, Finance, General Counsel, and other University offices to facilitate research commercialization activities; Coordinate internal processes that support efficient management of intellectual property, commercialization, and innovation initiatives; Assist in the development and implementation of technology transfer policies, operational procedures, guidance documents, and best practices. Monitor and report key performance indicators related to invention disclosures, patent activity, licensing, startup formation, commercialization outcomes, and industry engagement; Prepare reports, dashboards, and performance metrics that support institutional decision-making and strategic planning; Recommend operational improvements that enhance technology transfer services, commercialization outcomes, customer service, and program effectiveness. Develop collaborative relationships with faculty, entrepreneurs, investors, industry representatives, economic development organizations, and external commercialization partners; Represent the Office of Technology Transfer at professional meetings, conferences, workshops, innovation events, and outreach activities; Support initiatives that strengthen industry partnerships, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and the University's research and innovation reputation. Promote a collaborative, customer-focused environment that supports innovation, entrepreneurship, and research commercialization; Contribute to the development and implementation of annual work plans, operational priorities, and strategic initiatives for the Office of Technology Transfer; Maintain current knowledge of intellectual property law, technology transfer practices, commercialization trends, and emerging issues affecting the research enterprise. Serve as the Division of Research and Innovation data steward, ensuring the integrity, quality, accessibility, and appropriate use of data across division functions; Lead the implementation, administration, optimization, and ongoing stewardship of institutional and divisional data systems and electronic tools, including platforms such as Academic Analytics and other enterprise reporting and assessment solutions; Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, scorecards, and other data visualization tools to support strategic planning, operational decision-making, performance assessment, and executive reporting; Collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and outcomes related to research activity and organizational goals; Collaborate with stakeholders across the Division, academic units, administrative offices, and university leadership to assess data needs and deliver actionable insights; Translate complex data into meaningful narratives, visualizations, and communication products suitable for diverse audiences, including leadership, faculty, staff, external partners, and accrediting or reporting bodies. Support data governance practices, definitions, standards, and reporting methodologies to promote consistency and accuracy across systems and reporting efforts; Support institutional reporting requirements, benchmarking initiatives, strategic assessments, and university-wide data initiatives; Serve as a subject matter resource for data management, analytics, and reporting processes within the Division; Assist with the evaluation, implementation, integration, and ongoing support of data-related systems, applications, and technologies used across the division; Partner with university offices and cross-functional teams to facilitate data sharing, improve business processes, and enhance the effective use of information resources across campus; Monitor emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in analytics, business intelligence, data visualization, and research administration to recommend improvements and support continuous innovation. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission, goals, and strategic priorities of the Division of Research and Innovation; Support special projects, innovation initiatives, faculty and scientific activities, commercialization programs, and strategic partnerships that advance research translation, economic development, and institutional impact. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience; or master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience. Competencies Strong knowledge of intellectual property, technology transfer, licensing, commercialization, and innovation practices; Proven experience coordinating complex projects and fostering collaborative relationships with faculty, industry partners, researchers, and external stakeholders; and, Exceptional organizational, analytical, communication, problem-solving, and project management skills. Administrative and Professional and A&P Executive Service (A&P EX) positions are considered contractual. Terms and conditions are generally recognized by contract for a specific period of time or contracts renewed on an annual basis. Certain benefits, amount of leave, and notification of termination are exclusive to the pay plan. In accordance with Florida Statute 112.219, relevant work experience may substitute for the required education: 4 years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's, or 6 years in lieu of a Master's. How to
