Director of TelFarm Data Center

Description

Position Description:

The Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics (AFRE) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a full-time, academic-year Fixed Term Assistant or Associate Professor of Agribusiness Management Economics. The faculty appointment is 30% teaching, 60% MSU Extension, and 10% service.

Successful candidates are expected to:

• Serve as the academic and administrative lead for the MSUE Telfarm Data Center, including working closely with MSU Extension's Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute, AFRE Leadership, the MSU Extension Farm Business Management Team, corresponding Extension educators, Telfarm, and related units. Responsibilities encompass the oversight and leadership of Telfarm services and Telfarm staff, which may include the training, management, and execution of farm-related business management activities (e.g., farm financial reports, year-end depreciation schedules, etc.).

• Further, candidates should be exceptional and inspiring teachers of topics in the area of agribusiness management and ag markets/finance. A focus and expertise in financial risk and associated risk management tools (e.g. crop insurance and other farm safety net policies), farm finance & financial markets, farm business analysis, and/or agricultural land values is a preference. Successful candidates are also expected to:

• Collaborate effectively with other faculty within AFRE, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and other departments on campus, as well as with outside stakeholder groups in Michigan (e.g., Michigan Agribusiness Association, Michigan Farm Bureau).

• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and engage in service through professional networks and organizations.
