Job Description:
Nassau Community College invites applications for a Director of Special Programs position in the Office of Information Technology Services. The Director of Special Programs will provide a broad range of support to plan, organize, and manage all activities related to all assigned department(s)/area(s), as aligned to the College's Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards. The Director of Special Programs works expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution, while operating with a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment, in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible to manage all aspects of assigned projects, including but not limited to personnel, staff, budgeting, application of technology to higher education, as well as College, SUNY and governmental regulations/guidelines; responsible for maintenance of all departmental operational policies and procedures, as assigned; participate in institutional management, college advancement, and strategic planning, as assigned; develop, supervise, and direct staff as assigned; participate in professional development activities; maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and pending legislation, relative to areas of responsibility; assist with all reporting, external and internal, necessary for local, state and/or federal compliance in assigned area(s); assist with implementation, assessment and evaluation of policies, processes and procedures related to assigned area(s); assist in identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned area(s), as well as working collaboratively with other administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College; work collaboratively with all relevant constituencies in the College and the Community to support efforts in assigned area(s); exhibit fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and administering of the annual budget for the department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established resources and limitations, as directed; serve on College committees, as assigned; work effectively with diverse populations; other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline; five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in IT administration, supervision, organizational leadership, and/or directing institutional initiatives or programs; experience overseeing enterprise information technology systems, including hardware, software, infrastructure, and data management; experience leading large-scale technology initiatives or digital transformation projects in complex and dynamic environments; experience managing and supporting technology operations within a higher education setting; experience with current management system(s) and programs used in higher education and/or the related area(s), including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Visio, and Adobe Professional, as well as being proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams); knowledge of current practices in management, computer systems, networking, and technology; knowledge of current technical aspects of hardware, software, and/or network issues; knowledge of information technology project management and budgeting; familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College and the demographics of the current student body and staff of the College; knowledge of local community and service area; ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently; knowledge and skill in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations; high level of emotional intelligence and energy; excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; ability to develop collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, and internal and external constituencies; ability to manage and adapt to change, make difficult decisions, encourage conflict resolution, and assure employee and department accountability, and strong management skills.
Additional Information:
The ideal candidate will preferably have a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline; experience working in a Community College Information Technology Office; and experience working in a unionized environment.
