Job Description

Position Summary The Data Strategy & Governance Manager is responsible for developing, leading, and sustaining Chord Energy's enterprise data governance program, ensuring data is trusted, well-managed, and positioned as a strategic asset across the organization. This role owns the execution and evolution of enterprise data strategy with a primary focus on governance (people, process, and technology). The Data Strategy & Governance Manager will likely lead a small team while working cross-functionally with data domain owners, data stewards, IT, and data analytics to drive alignment, accountability, and adoption of governance practices. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends program ownership, team management, and practical implementation of governance processes and tools to support analytics, operations, and innovation across the enterprise. This position is located in downtown Houston, TX. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience. Essential Job Functions Develop, execute, and continuously improve Chord's enterprise data governance framework, policies, standards, and procedures aligned with business priorities Plan, prioritize, and manage governance initiatives and roadmap in support of the overall data strategy Lead governance forums and working sessions to drive cross-functional alignment, accountability, and decision-making Partner with Data Domain Owners and Data Stewards to define critical data elements, establish ownership, and enable consistent stewardship practices Establish and monitor data quality processes, including measurement, reporting, and remediation of data issues Drive adoption of metadata management practices, including business glossaries, data catalog usage, and data lineage Evaluate, recommend, and support implementation of data governance tools and capabilities in partnership with IT Monitor adherence to governance policies and standards, identifying risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement Track and communicate governance adoption, effectiveness, and progress to stakeholders and leadership Lead, coach, and develop a small team of data governance analysts, providing direction, prioritization, and hands-on support as needed Act as a champion for data governance, promoting awareness, training, and enterprise-wide adoption of data practices This job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the position. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Data & Analytics, Engineering, or related field 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or related disciplines 2+ years of experience leading initiatives or managing teams Working knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DMBOK, DCAM) and their practical application Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across the organization Ability to travel to the field (North Dakota) approximately quarterly or as needed Ability to translate business needs into structured data practices and drive execution Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company Ability to meet deadlines
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Preferred Qualifications Experience implementing or supporting enterprise data governance tools (e.g., data catalog, lineage, data quality, stewardship workflows) Experience working with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric or similar) Prior experience in oil & gas or other operationally complex industries Experience establishing or scaling enterprise data governance programs Advanced degree or relevant certifications in data management or analytics
