Graduation from an accredited four year high school; experience working with the public; thorough knowledge of local tourist attractions, services and accommodations; thorough knowledge of the layout of the city and location of motels, restaurants, etc.; knowledge of the dates and locations of special events and activities; experience handling funds and performing basic accounting transactions; good organizational and interpersonal skills; or any equivalent combination of education or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills: Overview The primary responsibility of this position is to distribute printed materials between welcome centers, offices and the local business which pertains to the promotion of the city. There may also be times of responsibility regarding clerical and reception work providing information to tourists and residents who visit the city's welcome centers and/or the official call center. Activities associated with the job include meeting and greeting visitors/answering incoming inquiry calls, providing information about tourist attractions, facilities, hotels, restaurants and other services, merchandise sales and other materials, and handing out brochures and maps. Additional activities include filling brochure racks, cleaning the visitor's center, selling fishing licenses, receiving, and accounting for all funds, maintaining visitation records, and maintaining reference files. Job responsibilities require thorough knowledge of local tourist attractions, services and accommodation, thorough knowledge of the layout of the city and location of motels, restaurants, etc., knowledge of the dates and locations of special events and activities and good organizational and people skills. Job performance is evaluated by the VP of Operations through review of the level of assistance provided to visitors, knowledge of local tourist attractions, accommodations, restaurants, etc., awareness of special events and activities, cleanliness and organization of the welcome center, accounting of funds received and interpersonal and organizational skills. Duties Has full working knowledge of all policies and applications as they relate to the Visitor Services Department Contacts the business program participants for fulfillment of In-room guides Maintains Vacation Guide and In-room Guide distribution & inventory reports Assists other departments with various projects throughout year as needed Greeting visitors and direct them to local tourist attractions, facilities, hotels, restaurants, and other services. Answers questions and provide information about local attractions and facilities. Sells local craft items, maps, books, etc. and maintains accounting records of all funds received. Hands out brochures, information, and maps of the area. Fills brochure racks, cleans the visitors center, and stocks brochures and other materials. Sells fishing licenses, explains local fishing regulations, and maintains logs of all licenses sold. Responds to voice mail on a daily basis Responds to email requests on a daily basis Ensure that all bulk mailing takes place in a timely manner Assists with various reports as determined by the VP of Operations Maintains records of visitation to the center as well as incoming inquiry calls Maintains reference files and information pertaining to the cost of attractions, availability of services, etc. Assists with making hotel and restaurant reservations upon request Performs related duties as required. Qualifications Considerable knowledge of local tourist attractions, services, and accommodations. Considerable knowledge of the layout of the city and location of motels, restaurants, etc. Knowledge of the dates and locations of special events and activities. Knowledge of hotel and motel accommodations and cost of services and attractions. Knowledge of basic accounting transactions and money handling techniques. Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the issuance of fishing licenses. Knowledge of local fishing regulations Ability to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner Ability to accurately account for funds and maintain accurate records of all cash transactions Ability to prepare and maintain files, records, and related information in an orderly and accessible manner Ability to maintain the visitor center in a clean and orderly manner Ability to effectively explain local fishing regulations and maintain accurate logs of all licenses sold. Age requirement of 23 years of age or older. Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver's License, a clean driving record, and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates. This work requires the exertion of up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
