Job Description

This is a technical position requiring expertise in geographic information systems (GIS) for the Engineering department. This position also involves having good customer service skills and being able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, and other City employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Creates and maintains a variety of city-wide GIS datasets including zoning, land use, water and sewer utilities. Researches and interprets construction plans, deeds, plats and other legal documents. Maintains and organizes the engineering department's construction documents. Collects field data using Trimble GPS, iPads, or other mobile devices. Produces maps for council presentations, citizens and staff as requested. Assists city departments and outside stakeholders to assess GIS needs and implement appropriate solutions. Coordinates with outside organizations such as the Lamar County Appraisal District and ArkTex COG to obtain up to date GIS data and report errors or new developments. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED plus an associate s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in GIS, geography, computer science or a closely related field is required. A Bachelor s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school in GIS, geography, computer science or a closely related field is preferred. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS required. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Python scripting or municipal government a plus. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.
