The Technical Services Manager is part of the leadership team, reports to the President and is accountable for the technical standards, architecture, quality, and continuous improvement of all technology services delivered by Tower 23 IT. This role provides leadership for technical operations, project engineering, service delivery standards, tools, and technology stack governance. The Technical Services Manager defines how technical work is performed, ensures client environments meet company standards, leads technical escalations, mentors engineers, and drives continuous improvement across our tools, technologies, systems, and processes. This is a player-coach leadership role that combines hands-on technical expertise with technical team leadership. This role is ideal for an experienced MSP engineer who wants to move beyond solving technical problems and into shaping how technical services are designed, delivered, standardized, and continuously improved across the organization. This is a full-time, in-office leadership role based in North County San Diego . Because this position is responsible for mentoring engineers, driving technical standards, and collaborating closely with leadership, we are seeking candidates who live in North County San Diego and can work from our office daily. What You'll Own Technical Standards & Quality Define and maintain technical standards, reference architectures, and best practices. Drive standardization across Microsoft 365, cloud, security, networking, endpoint, and backup environments. Improve documentation quality and technical consistency. Reduce technical debt and recurring technical issues. Technical Leadership & Escalations Serve as the senior technical escalation resource. Lead root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions. Mentor technicians, systems administrators, and project engineers. Improve the overall technical capability of the organization. Project Design & Implementation Lead technical design and scope for infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, compliance, and modernization projects. Validate project scope, architecture, and implementation plans. Implement projects at a technical level and successful handoff to support. Technology Stack Governance Evaluate and improve monitoring, automation, security, backup, documentation, and management platforms. Recommend enhancements that improve efficiency, scalability, and service quality. Drive automation and standardization initiatives. Technical Training & Development Develop technical training plans and career growth pathways. Lead technical workshops, mentoring activities, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), networking, security or related technology area. 10 years of industry experience 5+ years of experience in Managed Services, IT Consulting, or a similar technical environment. Experience supporting and designing solutions involving: Microsoft 365 and Azure Active Directory, SQL, Exchange Apple Mac / iOS Networking and Firewall technologies Endpoint Management Backup & Disaster Recovery Cybersecurity Technologies Compliance Frameworks including
CMMC, NIST, HIPAA
Experience serving as a senior escalation resource. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, executives, and technical staff.
