Job Description

Position Overview The Director of Technology for Brown County Schools serves as the district leader for technology systems, infrastructure, support services, and instructional technology integration. Reporting to and evaluated by the Director of Safety and Operations, this position is responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, and forward-thinking technology operations that support student learning, staff effectiveness, communication, and district operations. Brown County Schools is a student-centered, innovative rural district committed to preparing students for life beyond graduation. Our schools prioritize meaningful learning experiences, strong relationships, and opportunities for students to explore their strengths, interests, and future pathways. Key Responsibilities The Director of Technology will be responsible for the following tasks: Lead the planning, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of district technology systems and services. Oversee daily technology operations, including networks, servers, wireless systems, internet connectivity, devices, software platforms, phone systems, and related infrastructure. Develop and implement long-range technology plans that align with district goals, instructional needs, and operational priorities. Evaluate technology needs and coordinate purchasing, licensing, warranties, service agreements, and inventory management. Respond to emergency situations, critical technology issues, and major system updates as needed, including work outside the normal school day, in order to reduce operational disruption during instructional hours. Technology Department Leadership & Innovation Lead the technology department team by supporting staff growth, setting clear expectations, and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and service. Bring forward innovative ideas, strategies, and procedures that improve efficiencies, strengthen systems, and enhance department performance across the district. Provide coaching, guidance, and support that helps team members grow professionally and contribute to district success. Coordinate cybersecurity practices, user access procedures, backup systems, disaster recovery planning, and data protection measures. Support compliance with applicable district, state, and federal requirements related to technology, privacy, records, and data security. Lead problem-solving and response efforts related to critical technology issues that affect district operations, communication, testing, or instruction. Support technology-related needs connected to district safety, operational continuity, and emergency response planning as assigned. Support teachers and staff in the effective use of district-approved technology tools, systems, and instructional platforms. Collaborate with administrators and staff to identify and address instructional and operational technology needs. Assist with digital learning tools, online assessments, and other technology initiatives that improve student engagement and access. Communication & Collaboration Work collaboratively with the Director of Safety and Operations, Superintendent, building administrators, teachers, and support staff. Communicate effectively with families, vendors, and outside agencies regarding district technology matters as needed. Attend meetings, professional development, and school or district events as assigned. Key Competencies Technology leadership and systems thinking Strong communication and relationship-building skills Data-informed decision-making and problem-solving Commitment to innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement Ability to lead change and manage complex systems High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical leadership Leadership Competencies & Professional Experience Experience leading or supporting technology systems, services, and infrastructure in a school or organizational setting Evidence of building team capacity through coaching, support, and professional growth opportunities Strong communication skills with the ability to engage staff, students, families, and the broader community Experience implementing systems and procedures that improve efficiency, service, and reliability Demonstrated commitment to ethical leadership, confidentiality, and professionalism Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in information technology, computer science, educational technology, instructional technology, or a related field required Demonstrated knowledge of technology infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, device management, software systems, and instructional technology Experience in technology leadership, systems support, school technology administration, or a related field preferred
Compensation and Funding:
260 Day Contract Salary negotiable upon experience and qualifications
