Lower Westchester County Company seeks hands-on Director of Infrastructure. This key position will report to the Chief Information Officer and will lead the infrastructure team in New York and also have significant influence over the infrastructure for three North American teams as well as smaller international operations. Company is a privately owned family held wholesale trade and distribution company that has tripled in revenue since 2010, primarily through acquisitions. About the Role -
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive the design & architecture of the infrastructure for North America.
Includes the following:
Servers - cloud environments on Azure and Oracle, on premise virtualized environments utilizing Nutanix, VM Ware and Hyper-V, as well as some stand-alone servers, including IBM Power. Most servers run a Windows OS, but some Linux and i-series OS are present. Network - Primarily SD-WAN using a variety of providers. Firewalls are currently used extensively, but the goal is to move to a Zero Trust environment that is less dependent upon physical appliances. Microsoft - North America is currently on four separate Microsoft tenants. Most voice and video communication is on Microsoft teams. Lead the team supporting the infrastructure in New York which includes teams for networks, servers and Microsoft, and a Help Desk (which includes the procurement and imaging of personal computers and mobile phones). The technologies currently in use in New York are Microsoft 365 & Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Palo Alto Networks (formerly Cloudgenix) SD WAN, Cisco Firewalls, Dell PCs Provide strategic leadership and direction for the selection of technologies to support new business endeavors, business optimization, and cost reduction opportunities Develop strategic relationships with IT suppliers providing infrastructure services, including telecommunications, hardware and software purchases, consulting, staff augmentation, recruiting, corporate mobile phone plans and IT security . Manage IT and telecommunications budget and spend for all divisions, working closely with CIO on larger expense items, unanticipated expenses and Capital Projects, including the following: Estimation of expenditures for proposed Capital Projects for IT equipment, hardware and software and infrastructure services Comparison of technology-related spend on a year-over-year basis to identify areas where costs can be reduced and where investment is insufficient Analysis and grouping of IT expenses to split expenses across business divisions, projects, and IT categories Identification of unanticipated technology spend Vendor invoice issue identification and follow up for IT related spend Maintain and support Disaster Recovery (DR) Plans, test/evaluate on an annual basis and recommend/implement improvements Supervision of 10-15 employees plus consultants supporting these functions
Upcoming Projects:
Consolidation of Data Centers Buildout of cloud capabilities on OCI and Azure Network and development of a framework to design where workloads should be processed Network consolidation and redesign including consolidation of multiple providers and technologies Security architecture improvements including evaluation of major security infrastructure components (e.g., end point protection, firewall)
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
Bachelor's and/or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems or a related field. Demonstrated leadership (including team supervision) in the areas of Networks and Servers Ability to build long-term strategic relationships with technology vendors Demonstrated curiosity of new technologies (e.g., GenAI) and a point of view on where these can be applied to improve business or reduce costs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact across all levels of organization, including business executives. Ability to provide a basis for executive management and a cost/benefit analysis for key infrastructure decisions Management experience and a proven track record of executing successful projects. Service mentality with the objective of providing end users with the highest level of service/satisfaction possible at a reasonable cost Wholesale/distribution industry experience with a company involved in the distribution of products a + Experience with the following software packages: JD Edwards Enterprise One, Infor (CSDE, M3, A+), Oracle Transportation Manager a + Demonstrated ability to optimize cloud costs (Azure and OCI) using cloud cost management toolsDemonstrated ability to simplify telecommunications networks and optimize costs. a+ Exposure to AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and productivity is a + Great interpersonal skills and a passion for providing excellent service A pleasant, easy-going personality with a positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude Benefits Base Salary $225k - $250k + (depending on relevant experience, expertise and accomplishments) Medical and Dental Insurance as per company plans Bonus Eligible Profit Sharing Plan 401(k) plan Excellent Office environment Reminder to submit resume in
