Job Description

Title:
IT Manager - AI & Efficiency Lead About Altus Power Altus Power is a leading commercial scale solar power company delivering reliable, cost-effective electricity to households and enterprises from coast-to-coast. Based in Stamford, Connecticut, just a short train ride from New York City, we develop, own and operate solar energy systems and battery storage nationwide. Altus builds generation right where demand is highest, turning warehouse rooftops, parking lots and brownfields into power-producing assets that feed real megawatts into the country's most capacity-constrained grids. Since 2009, Altus has grown to own and operate more than 1.3 gigawatts of solar producing projects across 30 states, serving more than 500 enterprises and more than 40,000 community solar subscribers. In April 2025, Altus Power closed a partnership with TPG Rise Climate Transition Infrastructure, an investor that shares our long-term vision for bringing affordable, locally generated power to communities, businesses and households faster, helping to lower costs and strengthen the grid for everyone. Our ability to scale is backed by strategic partnerships and we are well-capitalized to drive growth in markets with supportive energy policies. We're building a different kind of power company, driven by expertise and defined by execution. Join us and help build what comes next. About the Position Altus Power is looking for a hands-on IT Manager who will own the day-to-day health of our technology environment while acting as the organization's internal champion for AI and efficiency. This person keeps the team on task, drives sensible process improvement, leads change that makes sense for how we operate, and constantly looks for ways to maximize our capability as an organization. This is a leadership-oriented role. Core security operations are increasingly supported by our managed service provider (MSP) and internal engineering team, so the priority here is not deep hands-on cyber defense — it is strong IT management, security governance and oversight, and a genuine passion for identifying, visualizing, and bringing AI and automation solutions to life.
Responsibilities:
IT operations & people: Keep IT projects and the team on track; set priorities, manage workload, and ensure work gets done well and on time. Process improvement & change management: Identify where our processes can be tightened, design improvements that fit the organization, and lead change in a way that brings people along. AI & efficiency advocacy: Serve as the internal advocate for AI and automation. Spot opportunities, help stakeholders visualize the solution, build the case, and drive adoption through to real results. Security governance & oversight: Own the relationship with our MSP and coordinate with engineering on security execution. Maintain standards, compliance, and risk posture without being the sole hands-on defender. Infrastructure & systems: Oversee cloud and enterprise systems (e.g., Microsoft Azure / Microsoft 365 / Defender), endpoint management, identity/MFA, and business continuity.
Stakeholder partnership:
Communicate clearly with leadership, justify budgets and projects, and translate technical work into business value.
Requirements:
Proven IT management experience with a track record of keeping teams and projects on task. Demonstrated passion for AI and efficiency — ideally with concrete examples of championing, building, or implementing AI/automation solutions. Strong change-management and process-improvement instincts; able to make change that makes sense for the organization. Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including presenting to and influencing senior leadership. Solid security and infrastructure foundation sufficient to govern and oversee an MSP and engineering team (cloud, identity, endpoint, compliance). Deep hands-on SOC work is a plus, not a requirement. Comfortable being hands-on where needed while operating primarily as a manager and advocate
Preferred:
Experience implementing AI tooling in a secure, compliant way (e.g., within Azure). Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, Azure, CompTIA) — valued but secondary to leadership and AI orientation. Energy / clean-energy or similarly regulated-industry background. Work Life at Altus Our team is the asset we are most proud of. We aim to create a positive work-life balance. Here are a few of the benefits we offer: Competitive compensation Equity participation program for all employees, aligned to long‑term company success Health and Dental Insurance (100% of premium paid of Company's standard policy) 401(k) plan with company matching contributions Paid cell phone service on Company's plan Company paid lunch in the office Company paid membership to building gym Summer Fridays remote; two work-from-home days per month during the rest of the year Altus is unequivocally committed to the principles of equal employment.
