Description:
The Operations Manager (OM) provides oversight for the technical support of the enterprise cross domain system. This role is crucial for maintaining the backbone of our customer's operations, ensuring all systems run smoothly and efficiently without interruption to service. The OM will manage Tier 2 level IT support, specific to cross domain systems and data flow management, ensuring clear communication between our mission partners and our Engineering and Data Flow Operations teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of IT infrastructure, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
System Monitoring and Maintenance:
Continuously monitor the performance and health of all servers, network devices, and applications using monitoring tools. Notify Infrastructure team if maintenance, patching, or updates are required to ensure system security and stability
Incident & Problem Management:
Leads response teams during system outages, coordinates troubleshooting for major disruptions, and drives root-cause analysis to prevent repeat failures
Change Management:
Approves and oversees safe system updates, software patches, and hardware upgrades without disrupting day-to-day business operations
Team Leadership:
Directs staff such as system administrators, network engineers, and help desk specialists, overseeing daily tasking and setting operational goals
Disaster Recovery:
Builds, tests, and maintains systems continuity, backup, and disaster recovery strategies
Automation:
Identify opportunities to automate routine operational tasks
Collaboration and Documentation:
Work closely with mission partners, development, SecDevOps, and other cross-functional teams. Maintain clear and current documentation for procedures, configurations, and incident reports. Assist Project Managers in the identification of external dependencies and risks
On-Call Support:
Establish an on-call rotation to provide off-hours support for critical incidents
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
10+ years of experience in IT operations, systems administration, or a similar role
Operating Systems:
Proficiency in managing Linux server environments
Problem-Solving:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail
Communication:
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
Desired Skills:
Scripting:
Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python, for automation purposes
Cloud Platforms:
Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud service provider (e.g., AWS, Azure) Relevant IT certifications: (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, ITIL Foundation, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator)
Desired Education:
BS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, OR Computer Systems Engineering. Two years of related work experience may be substituted for each year of degree level education
