Reporting to the Technical Applications Manager, this role serves as a key technical authority for gas detection, atmospheric monitoring, automation, and control system applications. The Assistant Technical Applications Manager works with customers and internal teams across the full project lifecycle, from application review and system design through programming, testing, commissioning, training, and ongoing technical support, and also contributes to product development and continuous improvement. Schedule Full-time, on-site and field-based, not remote. Travel is required for commissioning, field service, troubleshooting, and customer support, including occasional extended hours during critical commissioning or customer operations. Compensation This role pays $100,000 to $120,000 per year, based on experience. What You'll Do This role leads system design activities including control architecture, automation strategies, communications, instrumentation, and system integration, and includes configuring, programming, troubleshooting, and supporting PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and communication systems. It also covers managing technical projects from concept and design through testing, installation, startup, and commissioning, and developing technical proposals, quotations, system documentation, operating manuals, and compliance materials. On the product and field side, this person performs product and system testing, verification, validation, and troubleshooting, and partners with design engineers to identify field issues and opportunities for product improvement. This includes providing on-site commissioning, startup assistance, troubleshooting, and technical support at customer facilities, training customers on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, and conducting product demonstrations and technical presentations for customers and internal teams. This role also has a process and mentoring component: reviewing field service reports for technical accuracy and completeness, helping coordinate field service resources based on project needs, establishing and maintaining application engineering procedures and technical standards, and mentoring application engineers and other technical team members. It works cross-functionally with sales, engineering, production, field service, repairs, marketing, and custom product teams. Required Qualifications 10+ years of experience in applications engineering, controls, automation, field engineering, industrial electronics, or a related technical environment Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline Strong hands-on experience with industrial installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer-site support Strong knowledge of industrial communications, including Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP Working knowledge of industrial signals and controls, including 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 5V, 0 to 10V, relay logic, and related instrumentation Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, schematics, electrical components, and fundamental circuit theory Hands-on experience with diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and electronic test equipment Ability to safely perform voltage, current, continuity, and signal measurements in industrial environments Strong mechanical aptitude, including understanding of fluid flow and pneumatic systems Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex electrical, electronic, automation, and control system issues Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to lead technical discussions, customer training, demonstrations, and presentations Ability to walk extended distances while carrying tools or equipment, climb stairs and ladders, and access elevated or confined work areas Ability to work in environments that may include dust, noise, vibration, and temperature or weather extremes, while wearing required PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, respirators, and fall protection equipment) Ability to follow all applicable OSHA, MSHA, customer-site, and company safety requirements Preferred Qualifications Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and/or IDEC PLCs and HMIs Knowledge of hazardous location installations, including Class I, II, and III environments Compensation and Benefits $100,000 to $120,000 per year, based on experience 401(k) with company match Medical, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance Paid time off To apply, submit your resume for consideration.
