A Technical Project Manager manages technical aspects of a technical project plan for a company. Manages hardware and software installation and upgrades while maintaining internal and external sites. Identifies project requirements, develops and manages project budgets and schedules, leads project teams, and manages communications with project stakeholders, including company management and clients.

ABOUT THE ROLE
DeerStone Consulting is growing its technical team and looking for someone ready to dig in. This is not a support role where you sit behind a senior engineer waiting to be handed tasks; you will own projects. Smaller ones at first, with senior oversight, but yours. You'll also contribute to larger, more complex efforts alongside our senior technical staff, which means you'll get exposure to the full project lifecycle fast: development, design, grant support, community engagement, construction coordination, and commissioning. DeerStone is a fast-moving consulting firm. Projects come in varied shapes, clients have urgent needs, and the work spans technical, relational, and logistical terrain that isn't always neatly defined. We need someone who is smart, adaptable, and genuinely interested in figuring things out; someone who sees a new challenge as an opportunity, not a problem.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Project Ownership:
Independently manage smaller-scale renewable energy projects (solar PV, BESS, microgrid) from scoping through construction coordination, with senior technical oversight. 2.
Technical Support:
Support senior engineers and project managers on complex multi-community or large-scale energy projects; contribute to technical analysis, modeling, design, and documentation. 3.
Technical Analysis:
Assist with energy system modeling, equipment evaluation, feasibility analysis, and technical report writing. 4.
Grant & Proposal Contribution:
Contribute to grant applications and funding proposals with technical content, data, and narrative support. 5.
Community Engagement:
Engage with Tribal and community clients in a respectful, culturally aware manner; participate in community meetings and stakeholder coordination. 6.
Field Work:
Travel to project sites in rural Alaska for site assessments, installation support, and community visits. 7.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate project files, schedules, and documentation; contribute to client reporting. 8.

Grow technically, professionally, and in your understanding of the communities we serve.
QUALIFICATIONS 1-5
years of experience in engineering, energy systems, project management, or a related technical field Engineering degree preferred (mechanical, electrical, civil, energy systems, or related); a related technical degree with strong demonstrated skills is acceptable Interest in or exposure to renewable energy systems: solar PV, battery storage, microgrids, or hybrid power Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle tasks across multiple active projects without dropping things Clear, confident communicator, in writing and in person, with technical and non-technical audiences alike Willingness to travel to rural and remote communities in Alaska, including via small aircraft

Field work, installation, construction support, O&M, or anything that got you out of the office and into the work. Prior exposure to grant writing, technical reporting, rural communities, or Alaska Native culture will make you stand out. EIT or PE candidacy is welcomed but not required.
COMPENSATION & WORK ENVIRONMENT
DeerStone is a small consulting firm. Compensation is pay-only; we do not offer a traditional benefits package. Instead, pay is structured to be inclusive of benefits, and we offer a Simple IRA with up to 3% employer matching contributions. What we do offer is a lot of flexibility. We believe in accountability to projects and clients, not to a rigid schedule. We accommodate life, as long as you show up when it counts: for your clients, your team, and your commitments. This position must be based in Alaska. When not traveling, we expect in-office presence 2-3 days per week (Anchorage) to support team building, collaboration, and the kind of working relationships that make a small firm function well.
