General Description:
The Network Engineer will be working in a small team ensuring the uptime of switches/routers and ICT operation services. The Network Engineer's typical day will include monitoring all switches and routers for maintenance and health status checks. In addition to engineering support, the Network Engineer will provide end-user support. Duties (Essential Job Functions): Provide technical expertise in network design, standards, analysis, development, and implementation, while supporting the ICT staff through knowledge sharing and assistance with network technologies. Evaluate, test, develop, and implement complex technical solutions to address a variety of business problems. Improve the quality of service (QoS) in the network. LAN/WAN backbone architecture and support. Management of ISP peering relationships. Plan for network and traffic growth, consolidation, and migration. Forecast network requirements and upgrades based on trends. Service convergence strategy and design (IP Telephony, VoIP, Video, Data, and Multimedia). Responsible for configuration, installation, maintenance, and support of communication networks. Develop prototype and project implementation plans. Planning and implementation of future network developments and related project work. Construct and maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and related systems. Create detailed networked documentation, including physical diagrams, logical diagrams, IP address schemes, and asset management. Optimizes network integrity by monitoring performance, capacity planning, and resource re-allocation. Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, printer, peripheral, and connectivity issues reported by users. End-user support throughout the organization is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS degree in Information Technology or related degree plus a minimum of five years of related experience preferred, or a combination of eight years of related work experience and networking certifications. CCNA, CCNE, or CCNP, and HPE/Aruba ACEP, ACSP, or ACA certifications are highly desired.
License and Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Driver's license Obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by role and TSA regulations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and current trends in information technology including information systems software and hardware technologies. Knowledge of design, installation, and maintenance of distributed, client/server, and desktop computer systems. Knowledge of communications protocols, telecommunications, and information processing environments. Knowledge of current network architecture and server operating systems, database systems, data communication protocols, and peripherals. Ability to understand highly complex information technology systems and issues. Ability to recognize problems, develop recommendations and solutions, and oversee correction. Ability to work effectively with clients, vendors, and senior managers. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to maintain integrity and discretion necessary to safeguard confidential data handled or obtained as a regular part of the job. Ability to organize/manage assigned projects without direct oversight and follow established operational procedures. Ability to manage and deploy security-related technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, access lists, intrusion detection systems, setting up user accounts, permissions, and passwords. Ability to participate in technical design reviews and recommend solutions and improvements. Ability to resolve problems by providing troubleshooting and network problem resolution, including analyzing problems with test equipment.
