12-Month Contract About the Role Our client, a leading financial services and insurance enterprise, is seeking an experienced Backup Administrator to join their Infrastructure Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, optimization, and monitoring of an enterprise-scale backup and recovery ecosystem. A primary focus of this position is architecting and maintaining secure, immutable, object-storage-based data protection solutions that enhance ransomware resilience, disaster recovery, and business continuity across multi-cloud and data center environments. Responsibilities Administer, monitor, and maintain the enterprise Veeam Backup & Replication platform, including backup and replication jobs, repositories, proxies, and related infrastructure components. Configure and oversee scale-out backup repositories (SOBR) and object storage targets (S3-compatible, Azure Blob, or on-premises object storage) for tiering, capacity planning, and long-term retention. Implement and enforce data immutability, including object-lock controls and Linux hardened repositories, to defend critical data against accidental loss, corruption, and cyber threats. Establish, optimize, and document backup schedules, retention rules, and replication policies aligned with organizational Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO). Monitor daily backup workflows, proactively resolve job failures, and ensure high-availability success rates that satisfy established SLAs. Execute and validate routine and ad-hoc recovery drills, covering file-level, application-specific, virtual machine, and full bare-metal restorations. Protect diverse enterprise workloads spanning VMware, Nutanix, Windows Server, Linux, and cloud-native application environments. Partner with cross-functional infrastructure and security teams on disaster recovery planning, offsite replication, and periodic ransomware recovery simulations. Automate operational health checks, routine administrative tasks, and compliance auditing via PowerShell scripting or the VeeamREST API.
Generate capacity forecasts, utilization dashboards, and audit evidence for platform readiness and regulatory compliance. Participate in scheduled on-call rotations to deliver operational and recovery support for critical infrastructure events. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. 7+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise backup administration, disaster recovery, or storage and data protection operations. Demonstrated expertise administering Veeam Backup & Replication within enterprise environments (proxies, repositories, WAN accelerators, and orchestration). Hands-on experience configuring object storage targets (AWS S3, Azure Blob, or equivalent S3-compatible systems) and Scale-Out Backup Repositories (SOBR). Working knowledge of Linux hardened repositories, immutability, and object-lock mechanisms for ransomware protection. Experience protecting hybrid infrastructure across VMware vSphere, Nutanix AHV, Windows Server, and enterprise Linux distributions. Proficiency in PowerShell or shell scripting to automate administrative, monitoring, and reporting tasks. Strong diagnostic, root cause analysis, and disaster recovery execution skills. Preferred Qualifications Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) or Veeam Certified Architect (VMCA) credential. Experience executing major Veeam platform upgrades, appliance deployments, and legacy backup platform migrations. Familiarity with enterprise monitoring platforms such as Grafana, Splunk, or Veeam ONE. Background supporting secure data protection operations within highly regulated industries (e.g., financial services or insurance).
