Westbrook, Maine Senior Automation Controls Engineer, Westbrook, ME, $80,000 - $110,000 + Overtime Pay, Industrial Automation / Custom Machinery We're looking for a Senior Automation Controls Engineer who thrives on solving technical challenges and wants ownership from programming through commissioning. If you're experienced with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and machine integration, this is an opportunity to work on highly customized automation systems while being rewarded for every hour you put in. Unlike many engineering roles, this position is hourly and overtime eligible, meaning your extra time and travel are compensated.Responsibilities:
Lead controls programming for custom automation projects from concept through customer acceptance. Develop and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and HMI applications. Integrate robots, vision systems, servo motion controls, sensors, drives, and safety systems. Commission equipment and perform factory and site acceptance testing. Verify machine sequences and troubleshoot electrical and control system issues. Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and design engineering teams. Travel to customer sites for installation support, field updates, and acceptance testing. Create and maintain technical documentation, wiring information, and machine manuals. Mentor technicians and support continuous improvement initiativesDesired Background/Skills:
Required:
5+ years of hands-on industrial automation or controls engineering experience. Strong PLC programming experience, particularly ladder logic. Experience with HMI development and machine integration. Knowledge of industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, DeviceNet, or IO-Link. Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation. Experience troubleshooting automation systems independently.Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or related field. Experience with Rockwell PanelView, FactoryTalk Optix, Cognex, Keyence, robotics, and motion control systemsOther Information:
