Role:
The Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer will support NY Fairway & GG Leadership by delivering trusted data, reporting, and analytics solutions that enhance operational visibility and enable informed business decisions. This role will design and develop scalable processes to ingest, integrate, and transform data from SAP ERP, retail enterprise systems, SaaS applications, APIs, and other operational platforms into analytics-ready datasets within Google BigQuery. The BI Engineer will also play a key role in advancing self-service analytics and reporting through ThoughtSpot, ensuring business leaders and stakeholders have access to reliable, actionable insights. The ideal candidate brings strong SQL and Python development skills, along with hands-on experience in cloud data engineering, API integrations, dimensional data modeling, and modern data warehousing practices.
What You'll Do:
Design, build, and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines that bring information from SAP ERP, SaaS applications, REST APIs, on-premises databases, and other enterprise systems into Google Cloud. Develop automated Python- and SQL-based ELT/ETL workflows that transform source data into reliable, analytics-ready datasets in Google Cloud Storage and BigQuery. Create and optimize BigQuery staging, curated, semantic, and dimensional data models, using partitioning, clustering, and cost-efficient query design to improve performance. Build trusted datasets and semantic structures for ThoughtSpot, dashboards, enterprise reporting, self-service analytics, and downstream AI initiatives. Partner with Fairway Market and Gourmet Garage leadership and teams across Retail, Merchandising, Finance, Loss Prevention, Operations, and IT to translate business needs into scalable data and analytics solutions. Automate workflow orchestration, monitoring, alerting, and recurring data processes using GCP-native services such as BigQuery Scheduler, Cloud Functions, Cloud Tasks, and Cloud Composer. Strengthen data quality and governance by validating calculations and reporting outputs, monitoring data consistency, maintaining technical documentation, and supporting metadata and enterprise data standards.
What You Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience. At least five years of experience in BI development or data engineering. Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, aggregations, window functions, common table expressions, and query optimization. Hands-on Python experience for API ingestion, scripting, automation, and data processing. Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, REST API integrations, JSON-based ingestion, and dimensional data models. Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, and Google Cloud Storage. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to connect technical solutions to business outcomes.
Preferred Experience:
ThoughtSpot, Tableau, Power BI, MicroStrategy, or comparable enterprise BI platforms. Retail data, SAP ERP ingestion, ThoughtSpot Data Modeler, or BigQuery Data Transfer Service. Cloud Functions, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Dataflow, or Data Fusion.
