DESCRIPTION

The position of Network Support Specialist performs troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on Network Equipment, Systems and Tools at designated Customer office locations. Ability to maintain Network equipment, connectivity, systems and tools, aiming for the highest functionality. Must use best practice and existing knowledge and expertise to conduct appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure. A successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of Networking, security and a variety of inter applications, networks and interfacing platform systems (Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Security Appliances). The ideal candidate will also have great troubleshooting abilities and attention to detail. The goal is to build and maintain updated and efficient networking systems to optimize the role of Technology in business sustainability. Essential duties for the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

Performs analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation Installs and maintains local area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network nodes, terminals, and wiring Evaluates local area network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations Coordinates installation of hardware and software by others Provides support to and trains users in local area network administration and usage Monitors and maintains network stability Communicates and coordinates network schedule, backups, and downtime to users Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts Coordinates work with other departments within the Company Assists other information systems (IS) personnel with project and problem resolution Provides network availability to entire Company for continued ability to succeed in marketplace Monitors PBX system performance to assure the dependable and uninterrupted operation of telephone communications; Corrects PBX alarm conditions Identifies and replaces malfunctioning or inoperative equipment such as circuit cards or processing units and performs repairs and preventative maintenance Determines which backup components should be maintained in stock Troubleshoots the entire communications system to determine if problems are telephone hardware or cabling Develops emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event Oversees or assists in the installation of PBX hardware Sets up new users and relocates existing users with telephone extensions, calling features, voice mail, and access codes Terminates cable on cross connects, hubs, and routers Reads technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment meets establishment requirements Tests and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems Setup and manage Conference room equipment

Requirements:

Knowledge of data communications principals and interfaces Knowledge of telecommunications principals and practice Ability to use the protocol analyzer to troubleshoot and examine network protocols Ability to use Network Monitoring tools to gather Network statistics and interpret into meaningful information Ability to identify and evaluate Network needs to justify and recommend solutions Ability to identify and communicate network impact possible due to proposed or planned application installation or network operating system changes Provide analysis, planning, and design for Network projects Ability to oversee and implement all phases of project management from site planning, to installation, migration, and implementation Ability to provide technical assistance on project planning for IS co-workers Knowledge of working with conference room equipment Ability to effectively handle many concurrent assignments with minimum guidelines pertaining to objectives, priorities or technical approach In-depth knowledge of telecommunication troubleshooting equipment and techniques including those used by common carriers Working knowledge of the public switched network including FCC rules and regulations and appropriate state and local tariffs Ability to work with service and maintenance vendors

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:

Requires 5 - 7+ years of related work experience

Education:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university

Certifications:

CCNA a plus Network + a plus

Pay:

$30.00 - $32.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
