Job Description

Advanced Systems Design is seeking an Systems Administrator, Intermediate for our client located in Montgomery, AL . This position is onsite in Montgomery, AL, and requires in-person availability starting day 1.
Job Overview:
The Systems Administrator - Intermediate is responsible for supporting, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving enterprise server, cloud, collaboration, identity, endpoint management, virtualization, backup/recovery, and related infrastructure services. The position works within the Office of Information Technology systems administration function and supports business objectives through reliable, secure, and supportable technology services. Responsibilities include Microsoft 365 and hybrid identity administration, Windows systems management, endpoint configuration, hypervisor and virtual-machine operations, Druva and other backup/recovery services, patching, automation, monitoring, incident resolution, system documentation, and infrastructure lifecycle activities. This is a hands-on systems administration role requiring broad technical capability across multiple enterprise environments.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
A hands-on enterprise systems administrator who can operate across Windows Server, Microsoft 365, identity, endpoint management, virtualization/hypervisors, data protection and recovery, storage, automation, and infrastructure support. The strongest candidates will be comfortable owning day-to-day operations while also improving reliability, security, recoverability, and service structure.
Primary Responsibilities:
Install, configure, administer, maintain, patch, monitor, and troubleshoot Windows Server and related enterprise infrastructure services across physical, virtual, cloud, and hybrid environments. Administer Microsoft 365 services and associated security/compliance capabilities, including Exchange Online, collaboration services, content search/eDiscovery support, service configuration, and operational troubleshooting as assigned. Administer Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID capabilities including users/groups, Group Policy, LDAP, hybrid identity, MFA, federation/ADFS where applicable, directory synchronization, access configuration, and identity-related troubleshooting. Build, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot endpoint and configuration-management solutions using Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager/SCCM, including Windows servicing, application/package deployment, compliance settings, and policy implementation. Administer enterprise virtualization and hypervisor environments such as VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, or comparable technologies, including VM provisioning, templates, snapshots, host/guest maintenance, cluster operations, capacity, and performance troubleshooting. Administer Druva and/or comparable enterprise backup and data-resiliency services, including protection policies, schedules, retention, backup monitoring, restore operations, recovery validation, reporting, and escalation of failed or degraded protection jobs. Participate in disaster-recovery and business-continuity activities by testing restoration procedures, validating recoverability, documenting recovery dependencies, and supporting recovery exercises for protected systems and data. Support enterprise storage and file services, including SAN/NAS or cloud storage, file shares, permissions, capacity monitoring, performance, lifecycle, and integration with backup/recovery platforms. Administer core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, certificate/PKI dependencies, time services, service accounts, scheduled tasks, remote administration, and related server utilities. Perform Windows patching, WSUS/servicing activities, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, configuration- baseline enforcement, and corrective actions in coordination with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams. Use PowerShell and other approved scripting/automation tools to standardize administration, reduce manual work, gather operational data, perform bulk changes, and improve consistency across systems. Monitor system health, event logs, utilization, backup status, virtualization capacity, service availability, and infrastructure alerts using enterprise monitoring and management tools; take corrective action or escalate as appropriate. Troubleshoot complex incidents involving servers, operating systems, authentication, network dependencies, storage, virtualization, backup/recovery, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, or integrated third-party services. Support migrations, upgrades, platform changes, server refreshes, decommissioning, tenant/service changes, and infrastructure projects using established change-management and testing practices. Create and maintain system diagrams, inventories, configuration records, support documentation, standard operating procedures, recovery runbooks, knowledge articles, and technical implementation records. Work with product owners, help desk teams, cybersecurity, networking, cloud, storage, database/application teams, vendors, and other technical groups to resolve incidents and deliver infrastructure services. Research and evaluate system software, hardware, utilities, and platform capabilities and make recommendations that improve reliability, security, recoverability, performance, or administrative efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience supporting and administering enterprise systems, Microsoft platforms, server environments, or related infrastructure services. Demonstrable experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Windows-based enterprise environments, including administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and service operations. Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server, DNS, identity/access concepts, and enterprise troubleshooting across multiple technical environments. Working experience with Microsoft Intune and/or
MECM/SCCM
for endpoint configuration, deployment, policy, patching, or client-management activities. Working knowledge of enterprise virtualization/hypervisor technologies and virtual-machine administration. Working knowledge of enterprise backup/recovery concepts, including backup policies, restores, retention, monitoring, and recovery validation. Ability to perform complex troubleshooting across operating systems, hardware, virtualization, storage, identity, endpoint-management, cloud/SaaS, and network-dependent services. Strong communication, documentation, prioritization, customer-service, and self-direction skills in an enterprise support environment. Broad knowledge of enterprise systems administration and the relationships among operating systems, identity, virtualization, storage, backup/recovery, endpoint management, cloud/SaaS services, security controls, and network dependencies. Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues using logs, monitoring data, system utilities, management consoles, command-line tools, scripts, and vendor support resources. Ability to balance operational urgency with change control, security, recoverability, documentation, and long-term supportability. Ability to independently organize work, switch between operational incidents and planned engineering tasks, and prioritize based on business impact and technical risk. Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and ability to communicate technical issues to service owners, support teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on Druva experience, including Druva Data Resiliency Cloud or comparable Druva services used for enterprise backup, SaaS/workload protection, endpoint protection, recovery, retention, monitoring, or reporting. Strong administration experience with one or more hypervisor platforms such as VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V/Failover Clustering, Nutanix AHV, or comparable enterprise virtualization technologies. Experience with high availability, clustering, VM templates, host maintenance, snapshots, resource allocation, capacity planning, performance tuning, and hypervisor/guest upgrade activities. Experience with hybrid Microsoft 365 deployments, Microsoft Entra ID, directory synchronization using AD Connect or comparable synchronization technologies, and hybrid identity troubleshooting. Strong PowerShell scripting experience for Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows Server, virtualization, reporting, configuration, and operational automation. Experience with enterprise storage technologies including SAN, NAS, cloud storage, file services, replication, snapshots, capacity management, and storage-related troubleshooting. Experience with Azure and/or other public-cloud infrastructure services, including virtual machines, identity, networking dependencies, storage, monitoring, or hybrid connectivity. Experience with PKI/certificates, service accounts, privileged-access processes, security hardening, vulnerability remediation, logging, and audit requirements. Experience with infrastructure monitoring, alerting, configuration management, IT service management, ServiceNow or comparable ITSM tooling, and formal incident/change/problem processes. Working knowledge of Linux/UNIX administration or mixed-platform environments is beneficial. Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, VMware, Nutanix, Druva, Azure, or comparable infrastructure/platform credentials are beneficial but not required.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a focus in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience. Advanced Systems Design, Inc.
