Job Description

IT Systems Administrator — Infrastructure (On-Site) Aveon Health

• Scottsdale / North Phoenix, AZ

• Full-time, on-site five days a week About us Aveon Health is a physician-owned primary care and podiatry practice of about 25 people. We are unusual for a practice our size: we run our own infrastructure on-premises rather than outsourcing it, and we have built it properly — a three-node Dell PowerEdge cluster, our own phone system, our own network, our own applications. If you have spent your career being handed decisions made by someone else, this is the opposite of that. The role You will be the person who owns all of it, reporting directly to the physician-owner. This is a senior, single-owner role, not a ticket queue.

What you would run:

A two-node Windows Server 2025 failover cluster on Storage Spaces Direct, plus a third standalone node offsite for replication and backup Hyper-V virtualization — domain controllers, SQL, file services, phone system, imaging, monitoring Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP across the practice Backup and disaster recovery: Veeam, Hyper-V Replica over a site-to-site tunnel, and an offsite copy to Azure A UniFi network — gateway, four switches, access points, VLAN segmentation, zone-based firewall policy, WireGuard VPN, 10Gb fiber core A self-hosted FreePBX / Asterisk phone system with SIP trunking, queues, IVR and 28 managed desk phones A small stack of self-hosted Linux and Docker applications, plus Microsoft 365 and Cloudflare DNS Day-to-day support for about 25 clinical and administrative staff, their workstations, imaging stations and printers How we are weighting this hire We are hiring for engineering depth first. If you are strong on servers, networking, virtualization and scripting but have not spent much time on a clinic floor, apply anyway — we will train you on the clinical side, and we expect to. What we cannot do is train someone up to infrastructure ownership quickly enough to keep a medical practice running safely. You do need to be genuinely willing to do the floor work. Some mornings this job is a failover cluster, and some mornings it is an x-ray station that will not open studies while a full waiting room backs up. If the second one sounds beneath you, we are not the right fit. What you need to have done, hands-on Windows Server in production — Hyper-V, and failover clustering specifically. You have built, patched and failed over a cluster, not just logged into one. Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP — designed and troubleshot, not just used. Backup and restore, with a habit of test restores. We will ask you about the last restore you performed when nothing was actually lost.

Networking fundamentals:

subnetting and routing, VLANs, firewall rules, VPN. Vendor does not matter — we run UniFi, but any serious network background transfers. Linux at the command line. Several of our production systems are Linux and you will be in a console at some point. PowerShell. You write scripts; you do not only run scripts other people wrote. The judgment to write down a rollback plan before you change something on a live system. Strongly preferred Asterisk or FreePBX in production — dialplan, SIP trunking, endpoint provisioning. This is the rarest thing on our list and we will pay attention to it. Healthcare, dental or another regulated environment; working knowledge of HIPAA in practice, not just in training slides Storage Spaces Direct, Veeam, Microsoft 365 tenant administration, Docker, Cloudflare DNS Experience as the sole or lead IT person somewhere — you are used to deciding What we will teach you Clinical workflow and what the practice actually needs at 9am on a full schedule Our EMR and the clinical applications around it HIPAA as it applies to the systems side, if you have not worked under it before Our specific stack, which is documented What this job is not It is not a help desk role, and it is not a stepping stone to one. It is not a specialist role. You will not be handed one silo; you will own everything. It is not a cloud migration project. We have chosen to run on-premises deliberately, for continuity and cost reasons, and we expect that choice to be respected — argued with on the merits, certainly, but respected.

Details Compensation:

Dependent on experience- $26-$28

Schedule:

Full-time and on site five days a week, Monday through Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm. Maintenance work happens evenings and weekends when the clinic is closed, and you would be on call for outages that affect patient care.

Start date:

As soon as possible How to apply Send to admin@aveonhealth.com 1. Your résumé. 2. A short note — a paragraph is plenty — about one system you personally built, migrated or rescued, and what went wrong with it. 3. One piece of documentation you have written: a runbook, a network diagram, a change log. Remove anything confidential first. This matters to us more than a certification list. Aveon Health is an equal opportunity employer.
