POSITION SUMMARY
The Server Engineer, reporting to the Senior Director of Information Services, is responsible for the expert architectural design, implementation, and advanced engineering of the organization's critical, multi-platform server infrastructure. This role shifts focus from routine maintenance to the strategic lifecycle management of Dell and HP hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, and complex virtualization stacks including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. The Engineer ensures the robust operation and scalability of core enterprise services—including Windows Active Directory, GPOs, DNS, and DHCP—while engineering high-availability and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions. This position requires a security-first engineering mindset to maintain strict HIPAA compliance and requires mandatory on-site attendance to support physical infrastructure. ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Infrastructure Engineering & Design:
Lead the architectural design and deployment of enterprise-grade server solutions, focusing on scalability, high availability, and performance optimization across Dell PowerEdge and HP ProLiant platforms.Advanced Virtualization Engineering:
Architect and optimize virtualized environments utilizing both VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V, ensuring efficient resource allocation and seamless multi-hypervisor integration.Enterprise Identity & Directory Services:
Engineer and manage complex Active Directory environments, including the design of Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS architecture, and DHCP failover strategies to ensure continuous enterprise service delivery.Systems Implementation & Automation:
Develop automated deployment workflows and scripting (e.g., PowerShell) for server hardening, patching, and configuration management across Windows and Linux environments.- Tier 3
Engineering Support:
Provide expert-level technical escalation for complex hardware, network, and software issues, serving as the final point of resolution for server-related incidents and enterprise messaging systems (Exchange/Cloud).Security & Compliance Engineering:
Design and implement server hardening standards and security firewalls to protect sensitive healthcare data; ensure all engineering practices strictly adhere to HIPAA and regulatory privacy standards.Resiliency & Recovery Planning:
Engineer and routinely test comprehensive Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) strategies, including the design of robust backup architectures and failover testing procedures.Technical Documentation & Standards:
Establish and maintain rigorous technical documentation for infrastructure architecture, engineering standards, and advanced troubleshooting protocols. QualificationsTRAINING/EXPERIENCE
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure design.Hardware Expertise:
Expert-level proficiency in engineering and troubleshooting Dell and HP enterprise server hardware (rack and blade systems).Virtualization Mastery:
Demonstrated experience in the design and administration of VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.Regulatory Knowledge:
Deep understanding of healthcare IT security requirements and experience engineering HIPAA-compliant infrastructure preferred.Disaster Recovery Architecture:
Expertise with design, deployment, and management of end-to-end Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, optimizing server infrastructure and storage replication strategies to guarantee operational continuity and rapid system recoverySkills:
Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell) and a strong understanding of SAN/NAS storage integration with physical and virtual server environments- Cloud and / or hosted solutions experience preferred.
- Healthcare Information Technology Infrastructure support experience preferred.
- Ability to speak, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
