ABOUT THE POSITION
The Principal Network Administrator plays a key leadership role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the Court's complex network infrastructure. This position oversees the configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, and VPNs while ensuring network scalability, security, and performance. Beyond technical expertise, the role involves mentoring junior staff, guiding project teams, and collaborating across departments to deliver reliable and secure connectivity. From developing topology maps and disaster recovery procedures to conducting root-cause analysis and applying critical updates, this administrator ensures the network remains resilient and future-ready. The position also evaluates emerging technologies, manages vendor coordination, and drives continuous improvement in network operations. Network Design & Documentation:
Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams, topology maps, and infrastructure documentation to support planning, scalability, and operational clarity.Infrastructure Configuration:
Install, configure, and optimize routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, and site-to-site VPNs to ensure secure and reliable connectivity across a large-scale organization. Oversee and manage the primary SD-WAN overlay infrastructure.Performance Monitoring & Root-Cause Analysis:
Continuously monitor network performance against KPIs, conduct root-cause analysis for outages or degradation, and implement proactive measures to minimize interruptions.Security & Compliance Management:
Apply security patches, firmware updates, and firewall rules to safeguard network integrity. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.Disaster Recovery & Continuity:
Configure and verify regular data and configuration backups, maintain disaster recovery procedures, and ensure readiness for rapid restoration in case of failures.Leadership & Mentorship:
Lead and guide technical staff, delegate tasks effectively, and provide training and mentorship to junior administrators while coordinating with vendors and cross-functional teams.THIS IS A TELEWORK ELIGIBLE OPPORTUNITY

Employment with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County requires employees to maintain their primary residence within the State of California. Applicants must currently reside in California or be willing to establish California residency by the start of employment. This requirement will be verified during the hiring process.SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the time of application:OPTION I
7+ years' experience in network design and/or administration.OPTION II
Associate's degree• in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 5+ years' experience in network design and/or administration.OPTION III
Bachelor's degree• in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 3+ years' experience in network design and/or administration. •To qualify for Options that require educational credentials, you must attach the required documentation to your application. Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio (e.g., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise). Project Management Certification (PMP) and Agile/Scrum Certification (CSM or PMI-ACP). Advanced troubleshooting expertise in diagnosing outages and performance issues using tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, or Thousand Eyes. Strong foundation in network security principles, with hands-on experience implementing Zero Trust frameworks, micro-segmentation, and next-generation intrusion detection/prevention systems. Proven ability to design and manage hybrid/multi-cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, GCP) with secure interconnectivity and SD-WAN integration. Expertise in architecting large-scale automation frameworks using Ansible, Python, or Terraform to streamline deployments and reduce manual configuration. Demonstrated success in building fault-tolerant, high-availability systems with automated failover, global load balancing, and disaster recovery protocols. Track record of leading enterprise-level RFPs, vendor negotiations, and technology adoption strategies to deliver cost-effective, future-proof solutions. Collaborative leadership style, working effectively across sysadmins, developers, and security specialists to drive enterprise initiatives.APPLICANT SUPPORT & INFORMATION
