The purpose of this position is to support the department and campus community by producing printed materials efficiently and in a timely manner using a variety of print methods including digital printing (black and white, color, and envelope printing) and large format printing, as well as various bindery and finishing techniques for a polished, finished product.Responsibilities:
Digital Printing Work independently, under general supervision, to maintain color calibrations, manage supply inventory, and ensure the overall functionality of various color and monochrome printers. Utilize EFI Fiery RIP software applications to maximize cost savings, minimize the use of paper and toner, shorten production runs, and improve turnaround times. Inspect incoming files for print quality, visual identity and graphic standards, and copyright compliance. Process digital print and envelope orders using various paper stocks and envelope sizes, applying image-quality enhancements as required. Evaluate final printed materials for image quality, consistency, and adherence to production specifications. Manage paper catalog settings for specialty papers and adjust feed trays and printer settings to accommodate humidity, static, and other environmental factors affecting print quality. Use design software to ensure artwork is properly sized for blank items used in sublimation printing. Orient and mirror artwork as necessary to fit sublimation blanks. Print designs using a sublimation printer and prepare items for transfer by preheating the heat press and securing the print to the blank with heat-resistant tape. Apply the appropriate heat and pressure for the required amount of time based on the blank material being used. Allow completed items to cool and inspect them for quality and imperfections. Works independently under general supervision to provide Large Format Printing and Finishing Inspect and Pre-Flight images using Adobe Acrobat, impose files in Onyx Production House software, Mimaki Rasterlink, and Flexi. Print Files to Canon Aqueous and Mimaki UV wide format printing machines as required based on media selections. Monitor print qualities, ink and media levels throughout the printing process. Operate GBS Spire III wide format thermal laminator- including loading of media rolls.
Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of related work experience required.Required Qualifications:
In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities identified for Position Skill Level I, work at this skill level typically requires the following range of knowledge, skills and abilities. Incumbents are not necessarily expected to possess all of the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined below, but should possess those applicable to their position Working knowledge of and the ability to use standard PC and Macintosh platforms, their operating systems and applicable software Demonstrated understanding of and ability to operate a wide range of reprographics equipment and systems, including, but not limited to, the ability to operate pre-press equipment/software, high speed copiers (black & white and color and digital envelope press), large format printers and cutters, and bindery equipment. Ability to learn new equipment and processes quickly, as well as troubleshoot applicable equipment. Requires basic knowledge of large format and reprographics systems and operations Ability to produce basic variable data on high speed copiers Working knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic software and the ability to manipulate and translate media, as well as process and enhance electronic files through pre-press software. Working knowledge of campus graphics standards and procedures Working knowledge of manipulating color values and ensuring consistent color throughout the job using applicable equipment Ability to manipulate and set up files and equipment in the production of a wide range of specialized material and media such as but not limited to posters, banners, magnets, signs, and fabric printing Work may require working knowledge of applicable U.S. Postal Service requirements and processes related to standard and automated mailing processes and other shipping and receiving methods Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt to a changing work environment and requirements including the ability to quickly learn to operate applicable new equipment/software and to obtain certifications when applicable Effective communication and customer service skills If assigned, ability to provide lead work direction to student assistants.Special Conditions:
Valid CA Driver's License.Compensation and Benefits:
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.Anticipated hiring range:
Step 10 $4,467 per month for qualified candidates Classification hiring range: $3,738 (Step 1)- $5,446 (Step 20) The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.
Position Information:
Work status: Full-time/Non-Exempt/Temporary Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (08:00 am- 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule:
Monday through Thursday (7:00 am- 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
