at Robert Half in Chicago, Illinois, United States Job Description Description We are looking for an experienced Systems Administrator to support and enhance a cloud-focused infrastructure environment in Chicago, Illinois. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who excels in Microsoft Azure administration, Windows Server support, and identity management while delivering dependable service across distributed teams. The role will focus on maintaining secure, high-performing systems, resolving technical issues, and contributing to infrastructure improvements that strengthen day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the health, availability, and maintenance of Microsoft Azure environments, ensuring cloud resources remain secure, stable, and optimized.
- Provision, configure, and manage core Azure components such as virtual machines, storage services, and virtual networks to meet operational needs.
- Perform routine administration for Windows Server platforms hosted in Azure, including legacy and current versions used across the environment.
- Administer identity and access services through Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, and Group Policy, including user provisioning and permissions management.
- Investigate and resolve infrastructure, operating system, application, and connectivity issues while providing advanced support for escalated service requests and incidents.
- Contribute to backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities to help protect systems and support recovery readiness.
- Assist with cloud infrastructure initiatives, including modernization efforts and migration-related tasks, as part of broader technology projects.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, operational procedures, and support materials for infrastructure services.
- Participate in on-call support as needed and collaborate with IT teams and business stakeholders serving users across multiple time zones.
- Identify opportunities to improve monitoring, automation, system performance, and operational processes, including support for PowerShell-based scripting efforts. Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in systems administration, cloud administration, or infrastructure engineering roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise managing Microsoft Azure environments and related cloud services.
- Experience supporting Windows Server workloads in Azure, including both modern and legacy server versions.
