Job Description

Description Role Overview We are looking for a hands-on Compute Infrastructure Consultant to lead a focused effort to identify, assess, and remediate aging, unused, or stagnant server infrastructure across the environment. This role will combine strong VMware/ESXi technical knowledge with project ownership and stakeholder coordination. The consultant will be expected to independently drive the work from discovery through remediation, working with server and application owners to determine the appropriate disposition of each system and providing clear progress, risks, and results to leadership. Key Responsibilities Identify aging, inactive, unsupported, or potentially unnecessary virtual and physical server infrastructure. Work directly with application, business, and technical owners to validate whether systems are still required and determine the appropriate path forward. Safely execute or coordinate server decommissioning activities while ensuring dependencies, data retention, backup, security, and business requirements are understood. Maintain a clear inventory and disposition status for systems being evaluated. Own the effort as a focused remediation project, including priorities, milestones, risks, blockers, actions, and measurable progress. Work independently and proactively escalate issues when additional support or decisions are required. Provide concise, regular updates to Digital leadership on progress, risks, completed remediation, and remaining work. Apply a contribution-motivated mindset by engaging stakeholders collaboratively, understanding their needs, and driving toward outcomes that improve the overall environment. Technical Skills Strong hands-on experience with VMware ESXi environments. Working knowledge of Windows Server administration. Working knowledge of Linux server administration. Experience with virtual machine lifecycle management, migrations, decommissioning, and infrastructure remediation. Ability to investigate server dependencies, utilization, connectivity, storage, backups, and application relationships. Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring, asset management, CMDB, or discovery tools. Just as importantly, this person will own the work without requiring day-to-day direction, proactively engage the right stakeholders, remove blockers, and provide leadership with clear visibility into progress and results. Experience Level Intermediate Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
