POSITION SUMMARY
Administrative and Technical Support work for the Bureau's Customer Service Division. This is a position that provides water and sewer house connection information to County plumbers and provides water/sewer appurtenance location to Bureau field personnel.
STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE
$22.20 - $25.04/Hourly $46,169 - $52,082/Annually
- This is the anticipated starting salary range for this position. Please note that the final salary will be determined by the Office of Human Resources, commensurate with experience and aligned to ensure internal equity with similarly situated roles.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Performs advanced technical level administrative support work, which may include supervisory responsibility, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work typically involves performing responsible clerical and secretarial work essential to the successful operation of a specialized function. Work may also include supervision of data entry staff and coordination and work scheduling of the data entry function. Work at this level may also include independent responsibility for a moderately complex clerical process.
- This is a Classified position, meaning that it is a part of the Howard County Classified Service upon completion of a probationary period of at least six (6) months
- This position has been designated as " essential personnel ," meaning an employee is expected to report for regular work shift during inclement weather, emergency situations, County holidays and on an on-call basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service and Communication:
Coordinate efforts between Utilities Systems Maintenance Divisions (Customer Service, Construction, Planned Maintenance). Interact with internal and external agencies to properly route customer service calls. Answer customer and outside agency calls and dispatch Bureau of Utilities personnel. Set appointments between customers and Bureau of Utilities staff.
Administrative and Office Support:
Enter data to log customer calls, inspection results, and required work. Order office supplies and reconcile payments. Perform mail runs to county offices as needed. Provide backup administrative support to the Meter Services Unit. Assist with requests for pickup of detector checks and meters.
Operational and Field Support:
Use digitized maps to locate system assets and generate related work orders. Support coordination of work related to inspections, maintenance, and customer issues.
Emergency and General Duties:
Report to work during inclement weather or emergency situations as required (emergency essential position). Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES
This position does not have supervisory duties.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Associate's degree and related experience and/or training. Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to create and format worksheets and workbooks. Strong skills in Microsoft Word with the ability to format and edit documents using headers and footers, tabs, outlines and page numbers; ability to use track changes. Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and maintain confidentiality.
