Job Description Clearance Required:

Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (must already be held - no sponsorship)

Certification Required:

IAT Level II (Security+ CE, GSEC, CySA+, CCNA Security, or GICSP) Overview The System Engineer Level 2 supports managed hosting environments across Linux, Windows, OpenStack, and virtualized compute infrastructures. The SE2 is responsible for troubleshooting daily operations, maintaining multi region OpenStack deployments, and developing automation to improve system reliability and efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Daily troubleshooting of Linux, Windows, and Red Hat 6/7/8/9 operating systems.
  • Provide support for Ubuntu systems within hosting and compute environments.
  • Oversee lifecycle operations for virtual machines across Linux hypervisor environments (and some Windows), optimizing performance and resource allocation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot OpenStack across multi region deployments, including supporting agency GOTS platforms.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Ansible and Puppet for provisioning and configuration automation.
  • Write Python and Bash scripts to automate operational tasks, support Return to Service workflows, and reduce manual workload.
  • Manage YUM repositories for GOTS software, updates, and package distribution.
  • Use Naemon and Grafana for monitoring, diagnostics, performance analysis, and proactive system health remediation.
  • Collaborate across technical teams to resolve hosting, compute, and infrastructure issues.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • 14+ years of Systems Engineering experience supporting complex programs of similar scope.
  • Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, or Engineering Management - May substitute 5 additional years of SE experience for the degree
  • Experience in: o OS troubleshooting across Linux, Windows, Ubuntu, and Red Hat o Hypervisor/VM management o Multi region OpenStack operations o Automation via Ansible, Puppet, Python, and Bash o SE documentation (SEPs, ICDs, requirements) o DoDAF/SOA architectural alignment o Risk analysis, verification planning, interface coordination o Maintaining system baseline integrity and supporting lifecycle engineering activities • Ability to support the DoD Certification & Accreditation process and contribute to JCIDS documentation.
