Job Description

KBS Builders is a leading modular building manufacturer in western Maine, producing residential and commercial structures for customers across New England. We are bringing our IT support in-house and are looking for a hands-on, all-around IT professional to be our dedicated on-site technology resource. This is a sole IT role reporting to company leadership. You will be the go-to person for everything technology-related at KBS — supporting our people, keeping our systems running, and helping us modernize our infrastructure. It's a great fit for a versatile problem-solver who enjoys wearing many hats, owning their environment end to end, and seeing the direct impact of their work every day. You won't be a small cog in a large IT department — you'll be the whole department, with the autonomy that comes with it. Two major projects are on the near-term horizon: upgrading our aging file and domain-controller servers, and migrating our project-based file storage from local servers to the cloud. You'll lead these initiatives, and we'll provide project-based contractor support so you're never carrying the heavy lifts alone. What You'll Do Day-to-Day Support Provide friendly, responsive support for all staff — desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals. Set up, image, and deploy new workstations, including high-performance CAD/design workstations. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues quickly to keep production and office staff productive. Systems, Network & Cloud Administer and maintain our Windows Server environment, Active Directory, file shares, and backups. Manage our network — switches, firewall, Wi-Fi, and internet connectivity — across office and plant locations. Administer our cloud-based systems, including Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive). Help lead the upgrade of aging file and domain-controller servers, and the migration of local project files to the cloud (with contractor support available). Own backups, disaster recovery, and business-continuity planning for critical systems. Plant & Electronic Systems Support and maintain plant electronic systems, including the camera/video system, security and alarm systems, and door/card access control. Coordinate with vendors on specialized plant and building systems as needed. Website, Marketing & Media Maintain and update the company website and social media accounts. Help edit and publish marketing and multimedia pieces (photos, video, graphics). Security, Vendors & Ownership Maintain sensible, right-sized cybersecurity practices — patching, endpoint protection, access control, and user awareness. Manage relationships with technology vendors (ISP, hardware, software, security systems) and help manage the IT budget. Document systems, maintain an inventory, and build simple processes so the environment is well-organized and supportable. 3+ years in a hands-on IT support, systems administration, or IT generalist role. Solid working knowledge of Windows desktops and Windows Server, Active Directory, and basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Wi-Fi). Experience administering Microsoft 365 / cloud services (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive). Comfortable setting up, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware of all kinds. A self-starter who can work independently, prioritize well, and communicate clearly with non-technical coworkers. Reliable on-site presence at our western Maine facilities, with occasional after-hours availability for critical issues. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between local company locations as needed. Nice to Have (Preferred, Not Required) We don't expect one person to arrive with all of these — strength in several is a real plus, and we'll support you in growing into the rest. Experience with server upgrades/migrations and Active Directory or file-share migrations to the cloud. Experience supporting CAD or engineering workstations (e.g., AutoCAD) and their performance/licensing needs. Familiarity with camera/VMS, access control, or alarm/security systems. Backup and virtualization tools (Veeam, VMware, or similar). Exposure to manufacturing, industrial, or plant/OT environments. Some marketing, website, or multimedia editing experience is a plus. Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+, Microsoft, Cisco CCNA).
