Job Description
Senior Service Technician/Shop Laborer Position Summary This position combines hands-on shop work, field service, customer support and domestic and international travel. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while representing our company professionally at customer sites. This role involves servicing, rebuilding, troubleshooting, commissioning, and repairing commercial and industrial desiccant dehumidification systems both in our Michigan facility and at customer locations across North America. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Shop and Mechanical Duties
- Disassemble, inspect, repair, rebuild and reassemble commercial and industrial desiccant dehumidifiers and related equipment
- Remove and replace mechanical and electrical components
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting tools, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively
- Read and use tape measures and basic measuring tools accurately
- Assist with light fabrication and modification of equipment components
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow company safety policies and procedures
- Work cooperatively with other technicians and shop personnel to complete projects efficiently Technical Support and Customer Service
- Provide remote troubleshooting and technical support via phone, email, video conferencing, and remote computer access
- Assist customers in diagnosing equipment issues and determining corrective actions
- Develop and maintain positive customer relationships
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries Administrative and Reporting Duties
- Prepare detailed service reports following field visits
- Generate quotations and recommendations for repairs and replacement parts
- Maintain accurate records of work performed
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications including: o Outlook o Word o Excel o PowerPoint
- Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal team members through email, phone, and written reports.
- Use company-provided mobile devices and software systems to document work and communicate project status Travel Responsibilities
- Travel domestically and internationally as required
- Coordinate travel logistics including: o Air travel o Hotel accommodations o Rental vehicles o Ground transportation
- Navigate unfamiliar locations independently and responsibly
- Maintain communication with customers and company management while traveling
- Travel may occur on short notice and may involve extended stays depending on project requirements Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 25 years of age (for car rental)
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools
- Ability to read measurements and use a tape measure accurately
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport and travel internationally
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 75lbs
- Ability to climb ladders and work safely in industrial environments Preferred
- Experience with industrial HVAC dehumidification, air handling, or mechanical equipment
- Electrical troubleshooting experience
- Arc flash training or electrical safety training
- Forklift certification
- Ladder safety training
- Technical service or field service experience
- Experience creating reports, quotations, and customer documentation
- Experience working directly with industrial customers Training Provided Controlled Dehumidification is willing to provide training to the right candidate, including:
- Product-specific equipment training
- Forklift training
- Ladder safety training
- Arc flash and electrical safety training
- Technical troubleshooting procedures
