Job Description

Posting Details We provide a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico. This position is with the District Six Milan Office As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date. Why does the job exist? The IT System Administrator position exists to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of the organization's technology infrastructure. This role is responsible for managing the development, documentation, maintenance, and security of both internal and external computer network systems, including their design, configuration, installation, administration, optimization, and integration. The position supports the planning, implementation, and protection of critical systems that enable daily operations, communication, data management, and service delivery. It plays a vital role in safeguarding organizational data, maintaining system integrity, and minimizing downtime through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of hardware, software, and network environments. By overseeing system configurations, updates, security protocols, and integrations, the IT System Administrator ensures that technology resources remain secure, efficient, and aligned with organizational needs while maintaining the highest standards of data protection and integrity. How does it get done? The candidate will install and maintain software applications and utilities to support server and workstation remediation efforts; respond to and resolve infrastructure-related incident reports in a timely and effective manner; maintain system security through the administration of user accounts and access controls; install, configure, and test workstations and servers, including associated hardware, software, and networking components; Ensure data and media recovery capabilities by implementing and managing scheduled system backups and database archive operations; participate in the testing, debugging, configuration, and documentation of operating systems and software while monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting system performance; install, configure, and maintain infrastructure cabling and peripheral devices as needed; and deploy and support a variety of hardware platforms. Who are the customers? Department of Transportation employees. Ideal Candidate Department of Transportation employees. Minimum Qualification Associate Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration, or any related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Business reference check and driver's license verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Extended periods of sitting and extensive use of personal computer.
