Job Description
Embedded Linux Engineer at X4 Technology Embedded Linux Engineer at X4 Technology in HAUPPAUGE, New York Posted in 1 day ago.
Type:
full-time Embedded Linux / Embedded Systems Engineer | Long Island, NY | On-site | 9/80 Schedule X4 Technology is working with a well-established engineering organization in Brentwood, Suffolk County, NY , that is continuing to grow its embedded engineering team. If you're an Embedded Linux engineer working with Yocto, Buildroot, Debian or similar , and you're looking for a role where you can get broader exposure across the stack - rather than being boxed into one part of the software - this could be a really interesting next step. The team works across embedded Linux, low-level firmware, hardware, wireless and system architecture , giving you the opportunity to move both up and down the stack depending on your interests. You'll still be hands-on with Linux and embedded software, but you'll also get exposure to areas such as board bring-up, bootloaders, device drivers, BSPs, hardware integration, communications and lower-level firmware . What makes it interesting? Broad technical exposure - work from Linux userspace and middleware down through BSPs, drivers, bootloaders and bare-metal firmware.
Yocto / Embedded
Linux experience is highly relevant - experience with different Linux flavours such as Debian, Buildroot or similar is also valuable. Work closely with hardware and EE teams , getting involved in board bring-up, debugging and system-level issues. Opportunity to develop deeper knowledge of wireless technologies and embedded communications . Exposure to C/C++ and lower-level embedded development , without being restricted to purely Linux-focused work. A genuinely hands-on environment where engineers have technical ownership and influence over architecture and design decisions . Excellent opportunity for someone who wants to grow into a more senior/principal-level technical position over the longer term . The working environment The company has a strong, well-resourced engineering function with a healthy pipeline of new product development, meaning there are good long-term prospects for someone who wants to build a career there rather than simply take the next contract . They also offer a 9/80 schedule , meaning you work nine days over a two-week period and get every other Friday off . It's an on-site role in Brentwood, Long Island , so you'll need to be local or open to relocating. In return, there is a strong overall package, good benefits and the opportunity to work on genuinely interesting embedded products. What they're looking for We're particularly interested in engineers with: Strong Embedded Linux experience, ideally including Yocto , Buildroot or similar. Good understanding of the Linux embedded stack and how it interacts with underlying hardware. Solid C/C++ skills. Experience with BSPs, device drivers, bootloaders, board bring-up or hardware debugging is highly valuable but not essential. An interest in getting closer to the hardware and expanding beyond traditional Linux development. Any experience with BLE, Wi-Fi, cellular, GPS, LoRa or other wireless technologies is a plus. The ability and desire to take increasing ownership of architecture, technical decisions and system-level problems . You don't need to have done all of this already - the appeal of the role is that it gives a strong Embedded Linux engineer the opportunity to broaden their skill set across the entire embedded stack .
