Job Description
About the Role We are looking for an experienced Principal Database Engineer to join our engineering team supporting mission-critical enterprise applications in the financial services domain. This is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on designing, administering, optimizing, and troubleshooting large-scale Microsoft SQL Server environments while collaborating closely with Java development teams to deliver highly available, secure, and high-performing applications. Key Responsibilities Administer, monitor, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server production environments. Analyze and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, execution plans, and indexing strategies. Collaborate with Java/Spring Boot development teams to improve application and database performance. Troubleshoot performance issues across SQL Server, Java applications, and AWS infrastructure. Design and maintain High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions using SQL Server Always On Availability Groups. Configure and support replication, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes. Monitor database health, performance, and capacity using industry-standard monitoring tools. Support enterprise reporting platforms, ETL processes, and high-volume transactional systems. Develop automation scripts using T-SQL and PowerShell. Implement database security, governance, and operational best practices. Participate in production support, incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architects, Developers, Infrastructure, and DevOps Engineers. Required Skills & Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. 10+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise production environments. Strong experience supporting Java-based enterprise applications. Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and JDBC.
